Fort Hope Lyrics

If we're a danger to ourselves?
We've seen them running through the door
But now the boys
They're coming back with someone else
With green eyes
A million boilsBut you'd never bid me at a wheel
But at least you say you will
At least you'll say that you will
Crave your crosses and burn it
To waste, ‘cause nobody cares for them
And I will have been always yours
And still we'd own
So take your crosses and burn them
It's on your move, you know run
Are we at war, we at war
If we're a danger to our health?
We've seen them running through the door
But now your girl
She's ‘round the back with someone else
Bleed lies from here to here a million wives
But you've never been with one who's real
But at least you say you will
At least you say you will
Crave your crosses and burn it
To waste, ‘cause nobody cares for them
And I will have been always yours
And still we'd own
So take your crosses and burn themIt's on your move, you know run
Crave your crosses and burn it
To waste, ‘cause nobody cares for them
And I will have been always yours
And still we'd own
So take your crosses and burn them
It's on your move, you know
It's on your move, you know
Been always yours still we'd own
Been always yours still we'd own
Fort Hope's song "Kaiser" explores complex themes of conflict, relationships, and self-betrayal, using metaphoric language that evokes a sense of urgency and emotional turmoil. The repeated questioning of whether "we are at war" suggests an internal battle, reflecting the singer's struggle with their identity and the perceived threats within their own lives. The mention of being a "danger to ourselves" implies a recognition of self-sabotaging behaviors and decisions that lead to personal conflict. The opening lines set the stage for a commentary on disillusionment, where those who once sought to connect or protect us—represented by "the boys"—have now returned changed ("coming back with someone else"), symbolizing how relationships can shift and morph drastically with time and experience.
The lines discussing "a million boils" convey pain and discomfort, highlighting the singer's struggle with wounds—emotional or psychological—that refuse to heal. The imagery of the wheel evokes the idea of being trapped in a cyclical pattern of pain, suggesting an attempt to break free yet feeling unable to escape the reality of one's situations. When the singer mentions that "you'd never bid me at a wheel," it indicates a lack of willingness from others to fully engage with their struggles. The phrase "at least you'll say you will" hints at a façade—promises made yet not acted upon, creating an atmosphere of expectation that goes unmet. The evocation of "green eyes" could symbolize jealousy or the unfamiliarity that emerges in relationships, hinting at betrayal and complicating the themes of trust and connection.
The chorus's invocation of the "crosses" serves as a powerful metaphor for burdens or past grievances that individuals carry. To "crave your crosses and burn it to waste" could imply a desire to rid oneself of these anxieties and societal expectations that weigh them down. This burning symbolizes a cathartic release, as well as a rejection of what others might find sacred or essential. It confronts the idea that external judgments or societal pressures are ultimately meaningless, as "nobody cares for them." The repeated notion of being "always yours" reinforces a commitment and intimacy that persists despite turmoil, suggesting a struggle to reconcile the enduring bonds with the toxic elements present in the relationship. This tension encapsulates the duality of love and pain, where deep connections are entangled with feelings of unworthiness and loss.
In the broader context of the lyrics, the repeated insistence of "it's on your move, you know" conveys a sense of agency and responsibility, urging the other party to take action instead of remaining passive. This may signify a turning point or ultimatum within the relationship, suggesting a need for change rather than complacency. The final lines re-emphasize the cyclical nature of the conflict but also hint at a possible resolution or acknowledgment of shared struggles. The sense of ownership expressed in "still we'd own" insinuates that despite the fractures in the partnership, both individuals retain a claim over their shared history and experiences. The juxtaposition of desire for change and recognition of the bond creates a profound understanding of love’s complexity, showcasing how intertwined pain and devotion can shape deeply personal narratives.
