Drift
Forty Foot Echo Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You took my whole life, my breath away,
I remember when we kissed, as you drift into the sun,
So take the ride, now you take the fall and,
You weigh so shallow,
Wait for me, before you take it all away.
Far away,
It's not like I wanted to,
It's not like I could breathe anymore,
Far away,
It's not like, I wanted you,
But you're not for me, not for me anymore.
I remember when we met,
It took your whole life, your breath away
I remember when we kissed, as you drift into the sun,
So take the ride, now you take the fall and,
You weigh so shallow,
Wait for me, before you take it all away.
Far away,
It's not like I wanted to,
Far away,
It's not like I could breathe anymore,
Far away,
It's not like, I wanted you,
But you're not for me, not for me anymore.
Not for me,
Not for me,
Not for me,
Not for me.
Far away,
It's not like I wanted to,
Far away,
It's not like I could breathe anymore,
Far away,
It's not like, I wanted you,
But you're not for me, not for me anymore.
Not for me,
Not for me,
Not for me,
Not for me
The lyrics of "Drift" by Forty Foot Echo convey a sense of nostalgia and heartbreak as the singer reflects on their past relationship with someone who once took their breath away. The opening lines, "I remember when we fell, You took my whole life, my breath away" suggest that this person had a profound impact on the singer's life, and that they were deeply in love. The second chorus, "It's not like I wanted you, But you're not for me, not for me anymore," reveals that the relationship has ended, and that the singer has come to terms with the fact that they are no longer meant to be together.
The repetition of the phrase "drift into the sun" throughout the song can be interpreted as a metaphor for the idea of being carried away or losing oneself in the heat of the moment. The lines, "So take the ride, now you take the fall, and You weigh so shallow" suggest that the singer's ex-partner may have been impulsive or careless in how they treated their relationship, and that this eventually led to their breakup. The closing lines of the song, "Not for me, Not for me" drive the point home that the singer has moved on from this person, and that they are now closed to the possibility of rekindling their romance.
