Lead singer Rafi Benjamin penned lyrics in English, Spanish, and Hebrew for the band's debut release "Even the Sun," the title of which refers to the teachings of the inimitable Dr. Bronner of Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps fame. In the varied songs from "Even the Sun," Fósforo offers up a mashup of jungle, reggae, punk, dub, pop, and many more genres, creating an organic fusion of live and electronic instruments. In performance the band is known for seamless integration of electronics into their sets, creating their signature "dubbed out madness."
The group's latest release, "Macondo," is written almost entirely in Spanish. It continues the band's tradition of combining unrelenting experimentation with a strong pop sensibility, and includes a punishing jungle/punk cover of Bob Marley's "War."
Fósforo has also recently recorded "Cumbia de Obama," an infectious tribute to the presidential candidate.

Fosforo Lyrics

escuchan los electrones
bailan al rededor de ti
nadan los resortes de nubes
martes no dice nada
sangre nueva te hace reír
y eran 3 medusas alegres
en la pipa de un niño gris
agua suena como resortes
baila no dice nada
tinta nueva te hace reír
te hace dejar el cuerpo al pasar, aplicara
a veces volver suplicará suplicará
el cuerpo al pasar suplicará
a veces volver suplicará suplicará
el cuerpo al pasar suplicará
a veces volver suplicará suplicará
The lyrics of Fosforo's song Desconocido seem to be abstract and open to interpretation, with references to water, flowers, electrons, and clouds. The song's verses paint vivid images of medusas smoking hair from a child's pipe and the sensation of leaving one's body behind. The chorus repeats the phrase "el cuerpo al pasar suplicará," which roughly translates to "the body will beg as it passes by."
One possible interpretation of the song is that it is describing a hallucinogenic experience or a journey into a different state of consciousness. The imagery of water, flowers, and dancing electrons could be connected to psychedelic visuals, while the references to blood and the body's pleading suggest a physical reaction to the experience. The lyrics' repeated use of the phrase "te hace reír" or "makes you laugh" could be seen as a nod to the euphoric effects of certain drugs.
Overall, the lyrics of Desconocido are impressionistic and surreal, leaving plenty of room for the listener's imagination to fill in the gaps.
