You know: with the exception of Piper, pretty much all the villains of scream are in some way motivated by vanity.

Look at it this way:

scream 1:

Billy blames his mother abandoning him on Sidney's mother because his vanity refused to allow him to believe that his mother didn't love him and that his father didn't so he lashed out at everything that he in his perverted thinking made him believe his vanity was wounded.

Stu: he somehow believed being a psychopathic, sadistic, bully was glamorous, so he aligned himself with Billy because his ego was stroked by the monsterosity of the acts he and Billy got up to. Therefore: vanity.

Scream 2:

if you listen to the ranting monologues of the murderers, you'll see that what really got under Billy's mother"s skin was everyone saying that Billy being a monster was her fault. So her wounded vanity demanded that she blame others for her bad parenting.

Micky was being paid for the killings in scream 2, but let's face it: he was stupid to think that Loomis wouldn't kill him as soon as his usefulness came to an end, and the plan to plead insa

mitt, was absurdly stupid. Only someone immensely vain would believe it would work.

Scream 3: Roman's vanity was wounded by Sidney being more loved than him, so he sought to destroy her and become a show director to compensate for his attention-starved vanity.

Scream 4: Jill explicitly said "I need fans!" Only vain people need fans. Her accomplice was flattered into helping her.

Most murder mysteries have the motivation for murder be greed, revenge or cowardly fear. But in horror murder mysteries like Scream and the shows involving Hannibal lecter, the main murder motive is vanity of a hungry/wounded nature.

You see, vanity can be used to provoke good deeds out of people, like a person cooking dinner for a guest for no other reason than simply being complimented for the cooking. But vanity can also corrupt.

You know why sadists and bullies enjoy seeing the pain and fear on their victims' faces? It's because in their vile minds that fear and pain is applause. Throughout all of Scream, the villains are the ones who take off their masks and their mistakes are always the same: they talk too much, they love the sound of their own voices.

Vanity is a two way street: on one end is immensely bright heroism and on the other is fathomlessly dark villainy.

All narcissists, good or evil, are vain.

Never underestimate vanity: it's a very powerful part of the human condition and few have the wisdom to use appearances as means to ends rather than ends in themselves.

Let's not go into her internet history... Could be full of "how to get rid of DNA/fingerprints" searches, as well as "my aunt is such a bitch, doesn't deserve of fame" rants before she formulated her murder spree or while doing it...
