Among a number of groups who helped define the Motown Sound of the 1960s, including The Miracles, The Marvelettes, The Temptations and The Supremes, Four Tops were notable for having Stubbs, a baritone, as their lead singer; most groups of the time were fronted by a tenor. The group was the main male vocal group for the songwriting and production team of Holland-Dozier-Holland, who crafted for the group a stream of popular hit singles, including two #1 hits: "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)" and "Reach Out I'll Be There". After Holland-Dozier-Holland left Motown in 1967, Four Tops were assigned to a number of producers, primarily Frank Wilson. When Motown left Detroit in 1972 to move to Los Angeles, California, the Tops stayed in Detroit and moved over to ABC Records, where they continued to have charting singles into the late-1970s. Since the 1980s, Four Tops have recorded for, at various times, Motown, Casablanca Records, and Arista Records.

Because all of your hope is gone
And your life is filled with much confusion
Until happiness is just an illusion
And your world around is crumblin' down
Darling, reach out, come on girl, reach on out for me
Reach out, reach out for me
I'll be there, with a love that will shelter you
When you feel lost and about to give up
'Cause your best just ain't good enough
And you feel the world has grown cold
And you're drifting out all on your own
And you need a hand to hold
Darling, reach out, come on girl, reach out for me
Reach out, reach out for me
I'll be there, to love and comfort you
And I'll be there, to cherish and care for you
I'll be there, with a love that will see you through
I'll be there to love and comfort you
I can tell the way you hang your head
You're without love and now you're afraid
And through your tears you look around
But there's no peace of mind to be found
I know what you're thinkin'
You're alone now, no love of your own
But darling, reach out, come on girl, reach out for me
Reach out
Just look over your shoulder
I'll be there, to give you all the love you need
And I'll be there, you can always depend on me
In the song "Reach Out" by the Four Tops, the lyrics speak about being there for someone who is struggling and feeling lost. The singer assures the listener that he will be there to offer love, comfort, and support. The opening lines of "Now if you feel that you can't go on / Because all of your hope is gone / And your life is filled with much confusion / Until happiness is just an illusion" suggest that the person is in a very dark place and is lacking hope and clarity. The repeated refrain "Reach out, reach out for me / I'll be there" emphasizes the need for the person to seek help and reassures them that they will not be alone in their struggles. The lines "And through your tears you look around / But there's no peace of mind to be found" highlight the idea that sometimes it can feel like there is no way out of a difficult situation, and that reaching out for help can be the first step towards finding peace and a solution.
The lyrics of "Reach Out" are powerful in their message of support and empathy. They serve as a reminder that even when things seem hopeless, there are people who care and who are willing to help. The song has become an anthem for many who have struggled with mental health issues, grief, and other difficult life circumstances. The Four Tops' powerful vocals and the song's catchy melody only add to its enduring impact.

Great remix. I always love the version of Motown songs where the vocals and music are separate :)
