Bidin' My Time
Foursome Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm bidin' my time,
"Cause that's the kind of guy I'M,
While other folks grow dizzy,
I keep busy,

Bidin' my time.
Next year, next year,
Somethin's bound to happen,
This year, this year,

I'll just keep on mappiin',
And bidin' my time,
"'Cause that's the kind of guy I'm,
There's no regrettin',

When I'm settin',
Bidin' my time.

I'm bidin' my time,
"Cause that's the kind of guy I'm,
Beginnin' on a Monday,
Right through Sunday,

Bidin' my time.
Give me, give me,
Glass that's bright and twinkles,
Let me, let me,

Dream like Rip Van Winkle.
He's bided his time,
Like that Winkle guy,
I'm chasin' 'way flies,

How the day flies,
Bidin' my time.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Foursome's song "Bidin' My Time" talks about a person who doesn't rush things and takes their time. They prefer to wait and let things happen naturally instead of pushing for something to happen. The person acknowledges that others might grow impatient or bored waiting for something to happen but they prefer to stay busy and continue mapping out their plans while waiting. The person has a positive outlook that something will eventually happen in the future, but for now, they will continue their patient approach.

The song also reminisces about the fictional character Rip Van Winkle, who slept for 20 years and missed out on the world's changes. The character ''bided his time'' and slept it away. The song compares the character's patience to the singer's approach, but instead of sleeping, they stay busy mapping out their plans and dreams while patiently waiting for them to materialize. The singer understands that life can be short and fleeting, but they prefer to enjoy the journey and wait for their time to come.

Overall, the message of the song is to be patient, enjoy the journey, and trust that things will eventually materialize in their own time.

Not just that sweet easy melody but great lyrics (time and I'm) are Gershwin gold. The harmony is perfect. What a nice upload - thank you!

If you watch "The Glenn Miller Story" there's a scene where he's playing in the pit band for this musical. You can hear this same arrangement playing throughout the scene, complete with the "hot potato" (ocarina) accompaniment.

@coolbluelights

I can't wait to play this through my 1931 RCA "Superette" radio when i'm done restoring it!
