Foxes Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

What's left hanging
In the air, in the air
Break the cycle
Round and round
Round and round we go

You play hide and seek
Now I see, now I see the light
Eyes spill over
Start to swim
Start to swim away

These strange faces
It was only yesterday we spoke on the phone
A distant memory from all those years ago
But now I'm looking at all these strange faces
And I'm not coming home

I never heard you speak like this
On the phone (On the phone)
You carry the weight and I take the guilt
Brings me down
Brings me down to this

These strange faces
It was only yesterday we spoke on the phone
A distant memory from all those years ago

But now I'm looking at all these strange faces
And I'm not coming home

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Foxes's song Home describe a feeling of confusion and disconnection. The opening lines "What's left hanging in the air" suggests that there is something unresolved, a sense of ambiguity. The phrase "Break the cycle, round and round" evokes a feeling of being stuck in a rut and wanting to escape.

The next verse hints at a relationship that has turned sour, perhaps due to lack of communication. "You play hide and seek, now I see the light" suggests that someone has been concealing their true feelings, only for them to be revealed much later. The line "eyes spill over, start to swim" could suggest that tears are beginning to flow, and the singer is struggling to keep their emotions in check.

Towards the end of the song, we hear the line "These strange faces, it was only yesterday we spoke on the phone". Here, it's almost as if the singer has been transported to a different reality. They find themselves in a place that is unfamiliar, and surrounded by people they do not recognize. The final lines "And I'm not coming home" are perhaps the most telling. It seems that the connection that once existed with this place, and with the people in it, has been lost. Something has ended, and the singer is unable to return to where they once belonged.

Overall, Home is a deeply emotional song that explores the themes of loss, change, and the difficulty of communication. Foxes delivers a powerful performance, with her distinctive voice perfectly capturing the mood of the song.

There is something deeply nostalgic about this song. A love letter penned to a past life that is evoked through the melody of this song. There is just something so profound about the way this song taps into that part of me that's missing. Only true art can make you feel that way. Thank you, Foxes. Your art is not in vain. <3

as someone who had this album + pretty much the entirety of the first foxes album in his playlist for the better part of the past 10 years theres just something that resonates so deeply with me when i read this comment. There was always something about their music that just magically pulled me back into it from time to time and i could never pin-point as to what it really was or is until now. I feel in a way this sense of nostalgia is something a lot of us share with them and their beatiful music.

Its such a refreshing song and so dreamy. It takes a chill down your spine, tells you something that you already know but have spent so long hiding from. Gossip girl rlly knew how to pick the right music for the right people. This will always be the song for Ivy

My favourite song by Foxes. So stunning and makes me so emotional!
The instrumental in the background is gorgeous, I especially love the instrumental chorus after she first says: "And I'm not coming home".
