Cosmic Vibrations
Foxygen Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't know, can't decide
Should I widow, should I take a life?
I don't know, whose in my mind
Haven't been down there since 35
If you want me, you can have me
You can have me, but I'm all used up
In the sun, in the sunlight laughing
3D vision

Look at me, look at you
See the sunlight on the ocean
In my head, then the waves
Whistle and your hair blows away
I put my mind into the ocean
I haven't been down there for many long year
Tropical fruit, mystery caves sail stones
All books come from minutes so young
Lovely red raincoat
If you want me, you can have me
You can have me but I'm all used up
In sun, in the sunlight laughing
Cosmic vibrations
Love is the answer

But where must we go again?
Where do we come from?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Cosmic Vibrations by Foxygen evoke a sense of confusion and contemplation. The opening lines reflect a state of indecision and suggest a dark thought - contemplating whether to take someone's life or not. The singer seems to question their own sanity, as they indicate a presence in their mind that they haven't encountered in 35 years. This conflicts with later lines that suggest the singer is also relishing the beauty of the sun and the ocean.

As the song progresses, the lyrics become more abstract and suggestive of an altered state of consciousness or perhaps a dreamlike state. Tropical fruit, mystery caves, and sailing stones are all vivid images that reflect a surreal landscape. The singer implies being disconnected from reality by suggesting that all books come from minutes so young, indicating a departure into a different realm of perception.

The song then concludes with the singer pondering existential questions about the origin and destination of humanity, contrasting with the cosmic vibrations and love as the answer. This marks a shift in perspective, as if the singer has moved from a state of confusion and disorientation to grasp something deeper, even if it's elusive.

Cosmic Vibrations
Foxygen

I don't know, can't decide
Should I wed or should I take her life?
I don't know who's in the hive
Haven't been down there since '35
If you want me, you can have me
You can have me but I'm all used up
In the sun, in the sunlight laughing
3-D visions

Look at me, look at you
See the sunlight on the ocean
In my head, when the wind
Whistles and your head blows bells
I put my mind into the ocean
Haven't been down there for many long years

Tropical fruit, mystery cave snail stones
All books come from minnesota
So heed my relation at the radio stations
I am your patient
Lovely red raincoat

If you want me, you can have me
You can have me but I'm all used up
In the sun, in the sunlight laughing
Cosmic vibrations, love is the answer

But where must we go again to become friends?
Where must we go again to become friends?
Where must we go to become friends?
Where must we go again to become friends?
Where must we go?

Sometimes I think people are afraid of how great this band really is.

@dannyapeshit

Great at ripping off of everything.

@robertmichelson315

As great as some of these songs are, they have some substandard live performances.

Daniel Moctezuma nothing is original man, don't be naive

@dannyapeshit

Jack Rabbit duh, but these guys literally cut and paste stuff. There's trying to have your sound that's influenced by stuff and then there is literally copying the same thing. This guy just tries to sound like Mic Jagger so hard and then tries to sound like Ray Davies and now he's on a Todd Rundgren tip. They just never found their sound imo, they continue to be just a paying homage band. Like how many people can we sound like, it gets annoying after third album.

@JackRabbitsRabbit

If you can trace influences that well I would relish in it and not complain that they are ripping people off directly (I would not suggest NOT listening to Girl Talk if that bothers you lol). I think if we all knew all of our artists' influences well enough we would find they all do that... It could even be subconsciously honestly. Sort of like that whole Tom Petty Sam what's his name thing.
