Their music initially featured many influences from 60s psychedelia, played with a rough lo-fi abandon. They self-released several EPs and albums between 2007 and 2011, including "30 track space opera" Jurassic Exxplosion Philippic, most of which are by now scarcely available. In 2011, they met producer/songwriter Richard Swift after handing him one of their EPs, and Swift would go on to work with them for some subsequent albums. After being signed to Jagjaguwar Records, Take the Kids Off Broadway, was released as their debut album on July 24, 2012. On January 22, 2013, they released their second album, We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic. This album was produced by Richard Swift and recorded at his National Freedom studios.
For each album Foxygen 'chooses' a different era in music history to focus themselves on. We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic is based on the sixties, ...And Star Power was seventies and their newest release Hang is based on the forties.

Oh No
Foxygen Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Standing on the moon, I saw you, love
Do you think we’ll be somebody?
Just standing all alone right in front of me
Do you think we’ll see?
La la, la la,
Oh no
But anyway
I see your face is so fake
Justin is on the phone
Right in front of me
Do you think we’ll be?
La la, la la
(I was standing on the bed
Birds were landing on my head
Even though it’s just a dream
I still don’t know what it means)
Oh no…
If you believe in love
Everything you see is love
So try to be what God wants you to be
And say that “I love you” again
The lyrics of "Oh No 2" by Foxygen can be interpreted in a few different ways, but the underlying message seems to be about love, relationships, and the ways in which we deceive ourselves and others in order to feel a sense of love and connection.
The first verse finds the singer standing on the moon, gazing down at someone they love and wondering if they will ever truly be together. They seem to doubt the possibility of love in the modern age, stating that they are "not one for love nowadays." Despite this, they are still drawn to this person, even as they recognize that their "face is so fake."
The second verse takes on a different tone, with the singer dreaming of birds landing on their head as they stand on a bed. The dream is confusing and unclear, but still speaks to the idea of trying to decode the messages that we receive from the world around us.
Overall, "Oh No 2" seems to be a song about the challenges of modern love and the ways in which we are often deceived or disillusioned by the people we care about. In the end, the song offers a potential solution through the idea of surrendering ourselves to love and trying to be the best version of ourselves in order to build deeper connections with others.
