In my humble opinion, 12-TET is lame.

I just change the time marking, everything else I put in the quote-unquote is by him.

EXPOSITION
0:02 – Theme 1, F major, a siciliano/pastoral
2:06 – Theme 2, A min or
DEVELOPMENT/FALSE REPRISE
3:03 – Theme 1, F major. Looks like a reprise, but –
3:20 – veers off course, into harmonically complex modulatory territory. This section is where the heavy lifting that shifts the entire tonal centre of the work takes place.
5:11 – Theme 2 [In D minor, which is revealed to be a suspension that resolves to A minor. This section substitutes for a reprise proper.]
CODA/CLOSING SECTION – 5:53 [References to Themes 1/2]

"

You can see 3:20 is a big moment there.

Chopin is just completely out of this world, his ballads are so incredible his sound is so unique, divine

@Elias precisely. however when i play chopin i still feel like the ballades are the most difficult. they are technically like the etudes, yet lyrical like the nocturnes

Elias

@Xqf Especially his Nocturnes. His Nocturnes have been compared to his Etudes by many musicians. Some have even claimed that his nocturnes are more difficult than his etudes, due to the fact that etudes mainly focus on technicality over musicality. To be able to make a nocturne sing and have the right touch, requires much greater skill than being able to play an etude.

Xqf

@Elias what makes his ballades so difficult is not their technical aspects but their incredibly complex musical nature. from an interpretational point of view truly pieces of utmost difficulty

Elias

@PepperMint Ice There are even harder pieces than Chopin and Liszt by other composers in the late romantic era/ post romantic.

Aldo Ringo

Its mainly due to the fact that he spent a really long time composing them, and revisited each part several times, even across the space of several years, to perfect a piece that was merely a few minutes long.

I don't get why when this Ballade was released, some critics said that it's one of Chopin's less ingenious compositions. I think it's sort of personal, but this Ballade is mad amazing. Maybe it doesn't sound as romantically beautiful as, let's say the 1st or the 4th Ballade, but the whole melody, vibe, and progression are just brilliantly composed, wonderful. The complexity is insane too, anyway. Perfect art creation.

@lavatrex I do like this one, very hard to decide which is best but third is my favourite by some margin I think

lavatrex

@Trivekz in my very subjective opinion this one is the best and the third is the worst, but hey, that just proves they’re all good

Trivekz

Don't get me wrong, this is a great piece, same for all of Chopin's, but it's the worst out of the 4 ballades for sure imo. Also for some reason 3rd Ballade is often left out but that's always been my favourite
