Hardy signed her first contract with the record label Vogue in November 1961. In April 1962, shortly after finishing school, her first album, "Oh oh Chéri", appeared, with the title song written by Johnny Hallyday's writing duo. The flip side of the record, "Tous les garçons et les filles" became a huge success, which sold 2 million copies. She had long hair and usually wore jeans with a leather jacket, while accompanying her songs on the guitar.
She sang in English, Spanish, and German occasionally. In 1963, she represented Monaco in the Grand Prix d'Eurovision de la Chanson with "L'amour s'en va" and emerged in fifth place. In 1968, she received the Grand Prix du Disque Académie Charles Cros.
In 1981, she married her long-time companion Jacques Dutronc, with whom she had already had a son (Thomas Dutronc) in 1973. In May 2000, she had a comeback with the album "Clair Obscur". Her son played the guitar, and her husband sang the duet "Puisque vous partez en voyage". Iggy Pop and Etienne Daho participated, as well. She currently lives near Paris.
In 2006 she released a new duets album entitled "Parenthèses" which included a song with her son Thomas.
In 2021, Hardy announced that her health had worsened and that she would not be able to sing again owing to the effects of cancer therapy.
Brûlure
Françoise Hardy Lyrics

un soleil a surgi
qui a séché ma pluie
il m'a brûlé aussi
une nuit
un éclair a jailli
illuminant ma nuit
une vie
un amour lui survit
il réchauffait ma vie
et il me brûle aussi
seule sans lui
douce est pourtant la pluie
fraîche comme avant la nuit
mais elle me brûle aussi
The song Brûlure by Francoise Hardy is a beautiful French ballad that talks about love and loss. The lyrics start with the metaphor of rain pouring down, and then the sun comes out and dries up the rain. But instead of making the singer happy, the sun also burns her. This is a metaphor for the futility of trying to escape from pain or sadness. Then, an unexpected event, an electrical storm, illuminates the darkness of the night. However, once again, it only brings more pain, and this time it is the pain of longing for a lost love. The third stanza talks about a life where love still exists but is no longer present. The love that once warmed and brightened life is now the source of pain and burning.
The final stanza is a beautiful conclusion that brings the whole song together, and that is only understandable because of the previous three metaphors. The singer feels alone and without her love, however, the rain is still sweet and fresh, just like the night. Despite that, it is still burning her, as a reminder that she is in pain and cannot escape it.
Overall, Brûlure by Francoise Hardy is a beautifully written and sung song that paints a vivid picture of love and loss in a poetic and meaningful way.
