Hardy signed her first contract with the record label Vogue in November 1961. In April 1962, shortly after finishing school, her first album, "Oh oh Chéri", appeared, with the title song written by Johnny Hallyday's writing duo. The flip side of the record, "Tous les garçons et les filles" became a huge success, which sold 2 million copies. She had long hair and usually wore jeans with a leather jacket, while accompanying her songs on the guitar.
She sang in English, Spanish, and German occasionally. In 1963, she represented Monaco in the Grand Prix d'Eurovision de la Chanson with "L'amour s'en va" and emerged in fifth place. In 1968, she received the Grand Prix du Disque Académie Charles Cros.
In 1981, she married her long-time companion Jacques Dutronc, with whom she had already had a son (Thomas Dutronc) in 1973. In May 2000, she had a comeback with the album "Clair Obscur". Her son played the guitar, and her husband sang the duet "Puisque vous partez en voyage". Iggy Pop and Etienne Daho participated, as well. She currently lives near Paris.
In 2006 she released a new duets album entitled "Parenthèses" which included a song with her son Thomas.
In 2021, Hardy announced that her health had worsened and that she would not be able to sing again owing to the effects of cancer therapy.
Chanson Floue

Une tache de dentelle
Dans le jardin rose flou
Un enfant sur la balancelle
M'invitait à la marelle
Souriant à pleines joues
Souvenirs, je rêve
Il me faudra retrouver
Il me faudra retrouver
Le jardin où j'ai tant aimé
Au matin l'enfant jouvencelle
M'avait fait la courte échelle
Pour sauter le mur épais
Le mur épais qui nous sépare
Le mur épais qui sépare
Le rêve de la réalité
Le rêve de la réalité
The lyrics of Françoise Hardy's "Chanson Floue" paint a beautiful picture of a nostalgic memory of a garden. She describes herself sitting under her parasol, creating a beautiful and intricate lace pattern, in a hazy, pink garden. As she looks around, she sees a child on a swing, inviting her to join a game of hopscotch, with a beaming, carefree smile. The singer reminisces about this moment, as the day dawns, and the memory of the garden fades away.
The lyrics continue with the singer describing her meal, which consisted of a mandarin and a grenadine syrup. The sun was high in the sky, and she watched as an ageless child ran after a hoop on a path of clouds. The chorus repeats, with the singer dreaming of these memories, longing to return to the garden she loved so much. In the final verse, she reflects on the young child who gave her a boost over the thick wall separating them - the same wall that divides dreams from reality.
The lyrics of "Chanson Floue" are very poetic and poignant, evoking feelings of nostalgia and longing. The imagery and metaphors are rich, with the child and the garden symbolizing the joys of youth and the dream world that we all hope to return to at some point. The song has a dreamy, meditative quality that is both peaceful and sad, capturing the bittersweet nature of memories.
