Hardy signed her first contract with the record label Vogue in November 1961. In April 1962, shortly after finishing school, her first album, "Oh oh Chéri", appeared, with the title song written by Johnny Hallyday's writing duo. The flip side of the record, "Tous les garçons et les filles" became a huge success, which sold 2 million copies. She had long hair and usually wore jeans with a leather jacket, while accompanying her songs on the guitar.
She sang in English, Spanish, and German occasionally. In 1963, she represented Monaco in the Grand Prix d'Eurovision de la Chanson with "L'amour s'en va" and emerged in fifth place. In 1968, she received the Grand Prix du Disque Académie Charles Cros.
In 1981, she married her long-time companion Jacques Dutronc, with whom she had already had a son (Thomas Dutronc) in 1973. In May 2000, she had a comeback with the album "Clair Obscur". Her son played the guitar, and her husband sang the duet "Puisque vous partez en voyage". Iggy Pop and Etienne Daho participated, as well. She currently lives near Paris.
In 2006 she released a new duets album entitled "Parenthèses" which included a song with her son Thomas.
In 2021, Hardy announced that her health had worsened and that she would not be able to sing again owing to the effects of cancer therapy.
Mister

Devant qui je suis tombée
D'impatience pour vous, Mister
J'aurais voulu créer
Le plus grand des ministères
Pour, un jour, vous comprendre
Pour, un jour, vous découvrir enfin
De la tete aux pieds
Un enfer
Une équation étrange
Où, parfois, j'ai vu le fer
Ou les ailes d'un ange
Vous saviez si bien vous taire
Mais moi, si vous saviez
Deviner en moi ce qui se passe
Oh, si vous saviez !
L'un contre l'autre
L'un tout froissé
L'un ou tout l'autre
J'ai fini par me lasser
Du mystère
Celui qui m'a dévastée
Qui a tout foutu par terre
Je n' vous ai jamais trouvé
Vous aviez mis des barrières
Fier et sans état d'âme
Vous ne vouliez pas qu'on sache
Qui vous étiez
Sous vos airs
De ne pas y toucher
L'insouciance d'un courant d'air
Qui m'avait effleurée
La porte d'un monastère
Vous m'y faites penser
Qu'y a-t-il sous votre carapace
Quels jardins secrets ?
L'un après l'autre
Tout est passé
L'un ou tout l'autre
J'ai fini par me passer
Du mystère
De Mister x3
The lyrics of "Mister" by Francoise Hardy seem to be mainly about the mystery and intrigue surrounding a certain person, who the singer is obviously talking about. The singer of the song seems to have fallen under the spell of someone who has captured their imagination and who they are deeply infatuated with. They desire to know this person fully, inside and out, and to understand what this person is thinking, feeling and what motivates them to act the way that they do. The song speaks to the idea that all human beings have a certain amount of mystery surrounding them, and that it takes time and effort to truly understand and know someone else.
The song contains many captivating and poetic descriptions of this person that the singer is longing to understand, with the lyrics connoting a sense of excitement, tension, and longing. The idea seems to be that the more the singer understands and knows this person, the closer they can be, and also, the more they will understand about the mysteries of the world. In the end, however, the singer seems to have grown tired of chasing this enigma and has given up hope of understanding or ever being close to this person.
