Hardy signed her first contract with the record label Vogue in November 1961. In April 1962, shortly after finishing school, her first album, "Oh oh Chéri", appeared, with the title song written by Johnny Hallyday's writing duo. The flip side of the record, "Tous les garçons et les filles" became a huge success, which sold 2 million copies. She had long hair and usually wore jeans with a leather jacket, while accompanying her songs on the guitar.
She sang in English, Spanish, and German occasionally. In 1963, she represented Monaco in the Grand Prix d'Eurovision de la Chanson with "L'amour s'en va" and emerged in fifth place. In 1968, she received the Grand Prix du Disque Académie Charles Cros.
In 1981, she married her long-time companion Jacques Dutronc, with whom she had already had a son (Thomas Dutronc) in 1973. In May 2000, she had a comeback with the album "Clair Obscur". Her son played the guitar, and her husband sang the duet "Puisque vous partez en voyage". Iggy Pop and Etienne Daho participated, as well. She currently lives near Paris.
In 2006 she released a new duets album entitled "Parenthèses" which included a song with her son Thomas.
In 2021, Hardy announced that her health had worsened and that she would not be able to sing again owing to the effects of cancer therapy.
On dit de lui

On dit de lui que c'est un coureur
(Wop, doo-wop, wop-wop, doo-wop)
On dit de lui qu'il n'a pas de cœur
(Wop, doo-wop, wop-wop, doo-wop)
(Wop, doo-wop, wop-wop, doo-wop)
Moi, il me prendra à mon tour
(Wop, doo-wop, wop-wop, doo-wop)
(Wop, doo-wop, wop-wop, doo-wop)
(Wop, doo-wop, wop-wop, doo-wop)
(Wop, doo-wop, wop-wop, doo-wop)
Oui, je sais bien
Qu'il ne vaut rien
Mais s'il veut, au jeu de l'amour
Moi, il me prendra à mon tour
(Wop, doo-wop, wop-wop, doo-wop)
Car il ne sait que faire souffrir
(Wop, doo-wop, wop-wop, doo-wop)
Aucune fille encore n'a pu le changer
(Wop, doo-wop, wop-wop, doo-wop)
(Wop, doo-wop, wop-wop, doo-wop)
Oui, je sais bien
Qu'il ne vaut rien
Mais s'il veut, au jeu de l'amour
Moi, il me prendra à mon tour
(Toi, il te prendra à ton tour)
Oui, s'il veut, au jeu de l'amour
Moi, il me prendra à mon tour
(Toi, il te prendra à ton tour)
Moi, il me prendra à mon tour
(Toi, il te prendra à ton tour)
Moi, il me prendra à mon tour
(Toi, il te prendra à ton tour)
Moi, il me prendra à mon tour
(Toi, il te prendra à ton tour)
The song "On dit de lui" by Francoise Hardy is about a man who has a reputation for being a womanizer and for not having a heart. He tells women "Je t'aime" (I love you) often, but it's never the same person twice. Despite knowing that he is no good, the singer still wants him to take her in the game of love. The lyrics also mention how he makes many girls cry and that he doesn't care about their pain. Despite this, many girls try to be with him, but none of them have been able to change him.
The singer mentions that she saw him one day, and he looked into her eyes, which made everything start spinning for her. While she wants to forget about him, she can't help but be drawn to him. The last lines of the chorus emphasize her desire for him to take her in the game of love.
The song highlights the character of a man who is a player and doesn't treat women well. Despite his flaws, many women still try to be with him, hoping to change him. The lyrics suggest that this man is charming, but ultimately, he will break the hearts of those who try to be with him. The singer's desire to be with him, despite knowing he is no good, speaks to the allure of such individuals and the difficulty many face in trying to resist their seduction.
