Hardy signed her first contract with the record label Vogue in November 1961. In April 1962, shortly after finishing school, her first album, "Oh oh Chéri", appeared, with the title song written by Johnny Hallyday's writing duo. The flip side of the record, "Tous les garçons et les filles" became a huge success, which sold 2 million copies. She had long hair and usually wore jeans with a leather jacket, while accompanying her songs on the guitar.
She sang in English, Spanish, and German occasionally. In 1963, she represented Monaco in the Grand Prix d'Eurovision de la Chanson with "L'amour s'en va" and emerged in fifth place. In 1968, she received the Grand Prix du Disque Académie Charles Cros.
In 1981, she married her long-time companion Jacques Dutronc, with whom she had already had a son (Thomas Dutronc) in 1973. In May 2000, she had a comeback with the album "Clair Obscur". Her son played the guitar, and her husband sang the duet "Puisque vous partez en voyage". Iggy Pop and Etienne Daho participated, as well. She currently lives near Paris.
In 2006 she released a new duets album entitled "Parenthèses" which included a song with her son Thomas.
In 2021, Hardy announced that her health had worsened and that she would not be able to sing again owing to the effects of cancer therapy.
This Little Heart
Françoise Hardy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
This little heart that thinks for you alone
Strange hearts, little heart made of stone
Once brought me happiness too
No one can shake this little heart of yours
Some day I may have someone else to meet
Hope that your little heart skips a beat
That's never happened to you
Some day someone may make you see this way you'll end up with regret
Then you'll have quite forgotten me, this little heart, I never will forget
Some day someone may make you see this way you'll end up with regret
Then you'll have quite forgotten me, this little heart, I never will forget
No one can take this little heart of yours
You've got the one and only voice it hears
No one has ever brought you to tears
You've been too sure of my love
Why should this little heart close its doors
When you could have more of my love
Oh why should this little heart close its doors
When you could have more of my love.
The lyrics to Françoise Hardy's song "This Little Heart" speak of a strong and resilient heart that belongs to an individual who knows how to take care of themselves, even when others have hurt them. The singer talks about the little heart that belongs to this person, which thinks only for itself and nobody else. The heart is described as being almost like a solidified rock, with the potential to bring happiness to others. The singer tries to convince this individual that nobody can break their heart with their words or actions.
Despite this, the lyrics suggest that the person may one day meet someone who will make them see things in a different way, but it will be too late. They will realize that they had forgotten the person who had dedicated themselves to them and their little heart. The little heart is the singer's symbol of their own love that the person seemed to have taken for granted. The singer hopes that one day the person's heart will skip a beat when they think of the love they have lost.
The song speaks to the universal feeling of love and heartbreak. It is a reminder that people need to appreciate those who love them and not take them for granted. It is also a reminder that love can be lost if it is not nurtured and cared for tenderly. In the song, the singer is essentially telling the person that they should not be too sure of her love because love is something that needs to be continually worked at.
