Hardy signed her first contract with the record label Vogue in November 1961. In April 1962, shortly after finishing school, her first album, "Oh oh Chéri", appeared, with the title song written by Johnny Hallyday's writing duo. The flip side of the record, "Tous les garçons et les filles" became a huge success, which sold 2 million copies. She had long hair and usually wore jeans with a leather jacket, while accompanying her songs on the guitar.
She sang in English, Spanish, and German occasionally. In 1963, she represented Monaco in the Grand Prix d'Eurovision de la Chanson with "L'amour s'en va" and emerged in fifth place. In 1968, she received the Grand Prix du Disque Académie Charles Cros.
In 1981, she married her long-time companion Jacques Dutronc, with whom she had already had a son (Thomas Dutronc) in 1973. In May 2000, she had a comeback with the album "Clair Obscur". Her son played the guitar, and her husband sang the duet "Puisque vous partez en voyage". Iggy Pop and Etienne Daho participated, as well. She currently lives near Paris.
In 2006 she released a new duets album entitled "Parenthèses" which included a song with her son Thomas.
In 2021, Hardy announced that her health had worsened and that she would not be able to sing again owing to the effects of cancer therapy.
To the End
Françoise Hardy Lyrics

(Jusqu'Ã la fin)
They make us look so dumb
(En plein soleil)
We've been drinking far too much
(Jusqu'Ã la fin)
And neither of us mean what we say
(En plein amour)
Collapsed in love
And it looks like we might have made it
Yes, it looks like we've made it to the end
What happened to us?
Soon it will be gone forever
Infatuated only with ourselves
And neither of us can think straight anymore
To the End is a song by Françoise Hardy which perfectly encapsulates the idea of a relationship that is on the verge of collapse. The first verse talks about the use of dirty words that make their relationship look stupid. The alcohol consumption also suggests that they are not themselves and do not mean what they say. They are in love but they are not expressing it in the right way. However, the chorus suggests that despite their problems, they believe they have made it to the end. This could be seen as them reaching the end of their troubles or the end of their relationship.
The second verse tells us that they are infatuated only with themselves and cannot think clearly anymore. They are aware that their love is slipping away from them and, as the title suggests, they are heading "to the end". The repetition of the phrase "en plein amour" reinforces the idea that they are fully consumed by their relationship, but this all-consuming love may be doing more harm than good.
The final chorus is a repetition of the earlier ones, emphasizing that despite the uncertainty and the problems, they have still made it to the end. The use of "en plein soleil" (in full sun) at the end of the chorus could suggest that their relationship is now fully exposed, that they are in the open, with no secrets left. Overall, To the End is a song that captures the difficulties of a relationship that is on the brink of collapse.
