Hardy signed her first contract with the record label Vogue in November 1961. In April 1962, shortly after finishing school, her first album, "Oh oh Chéri", appeared, with the title song written by Johnny Hallyday's writing duo. The flip side of the record, "Tous les garçons et les filles" became a huge success, which sold 2 million copies. She had long hair and usually wore jeans with a leather jacket, while accompanying her songs on the guitar.
She sang in English, Spanish, and German occasionally. In 1963, she represented Monaco in the Grand Prix d'Eurovision de la Chanson with "L'amour s'en va" and emerged in fifth place. In 1968, she received the Grand Prix du Disque Académie Charles Cros.
In 1981, she married her long-time companion Jacques Dutronc, with whom she had already had a son (Thomas Dutronc) in 1973. In May 2000, she had a comeback with the album "Clair Obscur". Her son played the guitar, and her husband sang the duet "Puisque vous partez en voyage". Iggy Pop and Etienne Daho participated, as well. She currently lives near Paris.
In 2006 she released a new duets album entitled "Parenthèses" which included a song with her son Thomas.
In 2021, Hardy announced that her health had worsened and that she would not be able to sing again owing to the effects of cancer therapy.

Vient bien souvent me revoir
Ton meilleur ami
Me téléphone tous les soirs
Il me dit qu'il m'aime
Que sans moi sa vie
Ne vaudrait plus la peine
Oui, voilà ce qu'il dit
Ton meilleur ami
Quand je lui demande "pourquoi
Depuis des jours, des nuits
Je suis sans nouvelles de toi?"
Il répond qu'il m'aime
Que sans moi, sa vie
Ne vaudrait plus la peine
Oui, voilà ce que dit
Ton meilleur ami
Pourtant moi, je ne veux pas croire
Que tu sois d'l'accord avec lui
Sûrement ce n'était qu'une histoire
Quand il me l'a dit
Ton meilleur ami
Ne vient plus me voir maintenant
Puisque je lui ai dit
Qu'avec moi il perdait son temps
J'ai dit que je t'aime
Que sans toi, ma vie
Ne vaudrait plus la peine
Voilà ce que j'ai dit
À ton meilleur ami
À ton meilleur ami
À ton meilleur ami
In Françoise Hardy's song "Ton meilleur ami," the singer is addressing her lover's best friend who has been coming to see her often and calling her every night. The best friend tells her that he loves her and that without her his life would be meaningless. When the singer questions why her lover has not been contacting her, the best friend repeats that he loves her and that without her his life would not be worth living. However, the singer does not want to believe that her lover would agree with his friend. She thinks that maybe it was just a story the best friend made up.
As the song progresses, the best friend stops coming to see the singer because she tells him that he is wasting his time. She confesses that she loves her lover and that without him, her life would not be worth living. By the end of the song, the singer is directing her words back to her lover, telling him that she loves him and that without him, her life would be meaningless.
The song captures the confusion and insecurities that can arise in romantic relationships, particularly when there are outside influences like friends or societal norms. The repetition of the line "Que sans moi sa vie/Ne vaudrait plus la peine" (That without me his life/Would not be worth living) emphasizes the importance of the singer's presence in the lives of both her lover and his best friend.

joujoux la belle
Très belle chanson qui a bercé mon adolescence. Le temps des vrais sentiments et amours. Que de regrets ! Dommage que l'on ne puisse pas revivre le temps passé; ce temps que l'on pensait infini, dommage, dommage..
