Hardy signed her first contract with the record label Vogue in November 1961. In April 1962, shortly after finishing school, her first album, "Oh oh Chéri", appeared, with the title song written by Johnny Hallyday's writing duo. The flip side of the record, "Tous les garçons et les filles" became a huge success, which sold 2 million copies. She had long hair and usually wore jeans with a leather jacket, while accompanying her songs on the guitar.
She sang in English, Spanish, and German occasionally. In 1963, she represented Monaco in the Grand Prix d'Eurovision de la Chanson with "L'amour s'en va" and emerged in fifth place. In 1968, she received the Grand Prix du Disque Académie Charles Cros.
In 1981, she married her long-time companion Jacques Dutronc, with whom she had already had a son (Thomas Dutronc) in 1973. In May 2000, she had a comeback with the album "Clair Obscur". Her son played the guitar, and her husband sang the duet "Puisque vous partez en voyage". Iggy Pop and Etienne Daho participated, as well. She currently lives near Paris.
In 2006 she released a new duets album entitled "Parenthèses" which included a song with her son Thomas.
In 2021, Hardy announced that her health had worsened and that she would not be able to sing again owing to the effects of cancer therapy.

Françoise Hardy Lyrics

viens au port comme un navire
et tu sauras d'où repartir
quand tu voudras t'en aller
viens,
mon coeur a toujours tout donné
je me suis bien souvent brulée
on on on
viens,
s'il m'arrive de mentir
c'est que dans mes souvenirs
sommeille un oiseau blessé
viens,
moi qui déjà ai tout détruit
blessé tant de gens dans ma vie
je ne crains plus la vérité
on on on
viens,
comme une bombe exploser
je n'ai jamais laissé passer
une guerre sans y entrer
viens,
et fait que tout soit terminé
lorsque tu devras t'en aller
moi je pourrai mieux t'oublier
on on on viens
ah viens!
The lyrics to Françoise Hardy's song "Viens" are about a person who is ready to move on from their past and begin a new journey. The singer compares themselves to a ship that has returned to the port, but is ready to set sail again. They have given their all to others and have been hurt in the process, but they are not afraid of suffering again. The singer admits that they have lied in the past, but it is because they are still holding onto the pain of a wounded bird. Despite their past mistakes and causing pain to others, the singer no longer fears the truth.
The lyrics encourage the listener to come and help the singer put their past behind them. They want to explode like a bomb and engage in any conflict or war that may arise, but they just need someone to come and put an end to it all. The repeated phrase "on on on" serves as a kind of rallying cry, inviting the listener to join the singer in their quest for a new beginning.
Overall, the lyrics to "Viens" convey a sense of restlessness and the desire for change. The singer is ready to let go of the past and move forward with a new sense of purpose.
