I'll Be Seeing You Ft. Françoise Hardy
Françoise Hardy and Iggy Pop Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'll be seeing you in all the old familiar places
That this heart of mine embraces all day through
In that small cafe, the park across the way
The children's carousel,
The chestnut trees, the wishing well

I'll be seeing you in every lovely summer's day
In everything that's light and gay
I'll always think of you that way

I'll find you in the morning' sun
And when the night is new
I'll be looking at the moon
But I'll be seeing you
I'll find you in the morning sun
And when the night is new

I'll be looking at the moon
But I'll be seeing you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "I'll Be Seeing You" by Francoise Hardy & Iggy Pop are quite poignant as they deal with the longing and remembrance of a past love. The song talks about how the singer will be seeing their ex-partner in all the old familiar places like a small cafe, a park, a children's carousel, chestnut trees and a wishing well. These places represent the memories and the moments the couple shared together.

The song's middle part talks about how every lovely summer day, and everything that's light and gay, will always remind the singer of their ex-partner. The melancholic nostalgia blended with the hope of reuniting makes for a powerful and emotional experience. The final part of the song speaks about finding the ex-partner in the morning sun and the new moon. The singer may not physically be with their loved one, but their memories and the hope of reconciliation keeps their love alive.

Overall, the song "I'll Be Seeing You" is about the resilience of love in the face of distance and time. It's a testimony of how love can persist even when things end, and memories are all that is left. Through the lyrics, we feel the pain and the longing, but also the hope that maybe one day, the two lovers will meet again.

I'll be seeing you
In all the old familiar places
That this heart of mine embraces
All day through.

In that small cafe;
The park across the way;
The children's carosel;
The chestnut trees;
The wishin' well.

I'll be seeing you
In every lovely summer's day;
In every thing that's light and gay.
I'll always think of you that way.

I'll find you
In the morning sun
And when the night is new.
I'll be looking at the moon,
But I'll be seeing you.

I'll be seeing you
In every lovely summer's day;
In every thing that's light and gay.
I'll always think of you that way.

I'll find you
In the morning sun
And when the night is new.
I'll be looking at the moon,
But I'll be seeing you.

the roughness of Iggy Pop's voice is an excellent complement to the beauty and sweetness of Francoise Hardy's voice, n'est-ce pas?

Back in the early 70s, I'd sometimes stop at the Denny's restaurant on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood after a long night at the recording studio. Often, there would be Iggy with his retinue of friends & hangers on. Once he worked at our studio with David Bowie producing. I was the guy they had help them set up & take care of any problems. A problem they had turned into a special effect on the recording. Interesting times they were. peace royeh
