Je Pense Encore A Toi
Francis Cabrel Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The first stanza of Francis Cabrel's song Je pense encore à toi paints a picture of emptiness and solitude. The singer enters an empty church and sees only the lifeless stare of plaster statues. He then mentions a place where there is nothing above, indicating a sense of emptiness and desolation. Despite this, he still thinks about the person to whom the song is addressed. The second stanza hints at regret and caution. The singer wishes he had been more careful in anticipating the calamities that befell him. He mentions stones hidden under the water and small streams that become ports, representing the small problems that lead to bigger ones in life. Despite these difficulties, he still thinks about the person he misses. In the refrain, he contemplates the notion of time and its gradual erosion of feelings. He acknowledges that time can heal, but true love and longing can still persist through it.
In the final stanza, the singer describes his outward appearance as resembling that of a lost beggar, yet mentally he is consumed by thoughts of the person he misses. This stanza further emphasizes the idea of longing and the sadness of separation, as represented both externally and internally.
