Le Monde est sourd
Francis Cabrel Lyrics

The Francis Cabrel song "Le monde est sourd" is about the bleak state of the world and how people are oblivious to its problems. In the first verse, the singer talks about how children are working for low wages in order to support the wealthy who are playing golf in their fancy golf carts. The world is in trouble but no one seems to hear it. In the second verse, he mentions how people who are supposed to be truthful are not, as they deceive others and amass wealth. The singer mentions the common theme of there being a lack of witnesses to hold these people accountable.
In the third verse, he talks about Cendrillon, someone who is calling on the singer from a remote corner of the Sahel. She is asking where exactly the Tower of Babel is, as if it still existed, indicating that humanity has not learned from its previous mistakes. The fourth verse talks about a man who is happy that people are coming together but whose son is upset with him, highlighting the division within families due to opposing views. Again, there are no witnesses to help, making it hard to overcome these problems.
The song presents a bleak outlook that suggests an underlying sense of helplessness, with the world engrossed in its problems and people unwilling to see, listen or act upon them.
