Near You
Francis Craig and His Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's just one place for me, near you
It's like heaven to be, near you
Times when we're apart
I can't face my heart
Say you'll never stray
More than just two lips away

If my hours could be spent near you
I'd be more than content near you
Make my life worthwhile
By telling me that I'll
Spend the rest of my days near you

There is just one place for me, I'm happy when I'm near you
It's wonderful as heaven, a special kind of heaven, but only when I'm near you
Times when we're apart I wonder how I can face my heart
Say you'll never stray
More than just two lips away

If my waking hours could be spent while near you
I would be content, wonderfully content, just to be near you
Make my life worthwhile
By telling me that I'll
Spend the rest of my days

All of those happy, happy days
So near you

My mother is 100 years old (really) and she just sang this song for me, to the best of her ability, to ask what it was. It had been stuck in her brain. I recognized it and am now playing it for her.

This was my Mum and Dad's song when they were courting in the late 1940s. One of my Mum's last requests was to have it played at her funeral last year. Thank you You Tube for enabling us to find this song for her!

My mother, born in 1943, loved this 78 and the flip side Red Rose, which was Francis Craig's Theme song. The record broke when she was a young teen. I promised her I'd someday find it. I got Near You on Best of the 40s LP but she never thought I'd find the 78 with Red Rose on the flip side. When I was 16 the hippy on the block had a garage sale and there it was! I was so happy to find it that I nearly fell down and broke the record all over again running so fast to play it for my mom. She's still amazed to this day that she can hear Red Rose. The hippy actually gave me the record for free when I told him the story. I bought a few others from him anyway.
