A couple of years back, things were a little tight for me and my family. At Christmas I'd pawned my almost new $4000 Gibson guitar and got a $500 loan on it to buy gifts for my kids. When I came back a month later to get it out, they handed me my case and asked me to sign off. Before I did I opened the case. There was a cheap Chinese copy of my Gibson in it. Luckily when I'd taken it in I'd photographed the guitar in the case on the pawn-shop counter and had the guy sign my receipt with the Gibson serial number on it. They tried to blow me off, but I showed them the photos and the serial number on the receipt (which he's initialed when I pawned it) and said I was gonna call the cops and file charges for grand-theft if they didn't give me either my guitar or $4000 (I also had kept my receipt from when I bought it.). Somehow they managed to "find" my guitar in the back room. This was in Detroit, one of the bigger pawn-shops. ( I won't say their name because I don't wanna get sued.) They're all a bunch of shysters.

I feel ya brother. I once pawned a $5000 drum kit and when I went to redeem them they tried to give me some cheap, nearly toy cymbals, rather then the top of the line Paiste cymbals I pawned. With much ado I got my rightful property. Pics were invaluable. This was a small-time "good ol' boy" outfit in a small town near Fort Worth Ticksass.

I'd never pawn anything of a decent value without complete documentation to identify what was pawned, including pictures, and getting the pawn-shop owner's signature on them. Glad you got your kit back.

The most shocking thing to me about this show is it's success. I quit watching it when Cory demanded to be made partner instead of paying or working for the right. I worked in Vegas one week out of every month in the mid 2000's for five years. Pawn shopping was my favorite distraction. This place was a dive. You could still find original Leatherman multi tools Made in the US. I would give them to friends and family, not a small gesture, I had six kids and plenty of friends back then. Any ways other than the same floor plan, Hollywood gutted and remodeled this place. I would haggle with the old man who used to just sit in his chair towards the front. But this place was nothing special and pretty low on my list. Entertaining to watch the producers make something of it. Oh yeah, thumbs down, and won't bother to watch this channel again

Just curious, but how does some one get charged with having an un-registered fire arm? Firearms are not required to be "registered" here in Las Vegas. Hand guns are also not required to be "registered".

NFA items always have to be registered(and of course, that $200 tax paid). It’s possible he had an AK or AR “pistol” or some kind of subgun(MP5, MPX, APC9, etc.)with a buttstock instead of a brace. Or maybe Chumlee didn’t properly store his unregistered machine gun, which should ALWAYS be stored in a cool, dry place where no one can find them. SBR’s an MG’s are all Federally required to be registered. I’m unfamiliar with Vegas firearm laws, other than the fact they recently banned unserialized “ghost guns” which is unfortunate and ridiculous. I live in a free state that requires gun owners to avoid “woke-ness” in any form at all costs. Other than that, we’re pretty much good to do or have whatever we want. Oh yeah, Armed Robbery is generally frowned upon. Murder is too but as long as you don’t use the word “murder” while speaking with law enforcement after shooting someone, you’re probably good.

News accounts of his arrest did describe the guns found at Chumlee's home as being "registered" and some "un-registered", which is the usual inaccurate news media misunderstanding of gun law terminology, since there is no gun registration requirement in Nevada. However, the serial numbers and record of sale of all industrially manufactured guns are kept by Federal Firearm Licensees (FFLs) at the time of the first transfer from the manufacturer to a private gun owner. Recording of subsequent transfers of the firearm are not required if the firearm is sold at gun shows or in private person to person gun transfers (yes, that's a loophole). So what the news stories may be describing is that Chumlee had guns in his possession, some of which were identified by FFL records as having been transferred to him, and others which FFL records showed had last been transferred to somebody else, which he could have obtained without any FFL transfer record requirement at gun shows (and Nevada has a lot of them) or by direct private person to person purchase.

Anyway, all of that FFL-unrecorded gun ownership (the so-called "unregistered" guns) would have been perfectly legal EXCEPT that Chumlee apparently fell into one of the categories of a PERSON PROHIBITED from possessing guns at all - the list includes such things as being a convicted felon, convicted of domestic violence, dishonorably discharged from the military, a mental defective, illegal alien, or an unlawful user or addicted to any controlled substance (the full list can be found on the ATF website). Chumlee's illegal weapons possession charge was based on the fact that he was in this "prohibited person" category, and it appears to have been due to his drug use. It is unclear if he had previous convictions for drug use or if this "prohibited person" status was based on his current drug use, as an illegal drug stash was also found in the same police raid at his home and he freely admitted to the police at the time that he used these drugs. In any case, the illegal weapons charge was most definitely NOT because he had "unregistered" firearms, because there is no registration requirement for guns in Nevada, and FFL unrecorded transfers of firearms is perfectly legal if done through gun shows or private person to person transfers.

I worked for a Car Dealership and the owner would make like $20 Million per year, and he ended up driving while high and drunk amd they found him driving in someone's back yard and crashed into a tree, then resisting arrest. Interesting, usually the substances are ignored for the most part. During a rather dark part of my life, we had a (unrelated) 911 call placed to my home while there was a mirror with around $800 worth of coke sitting on it. The police and EMT’s came in, handled the situation and “said they would look the other way” on the “white stuff on the table”.

We had totally forgotten it was sitting there, obviously concerned about what was actually going on.
I guess you chalk that up to some sort of karmic blessing or guardian angel.

I think most of the things that happened with the shop is probably pretty normal considering it's Las Vegas and all. They're human and they are not infallible. If you thought owners of a pawn shop were really good people and held to a higher regard than others then you need some serious help. I visited pawn Stars many years ago it was one of my favorite shows. But after visiting it and seeing the the way Rick treated the visitors to his shop was terrible. What you see on TV and on the show it's totally different from the way they are and how they treat people in real life. After that visit I never looked at pawn Stars the same I never watch the show again.

Oh, that hurts. I accidentally watched the show. It drew me in and I respected the man and waited for episodes he may be on. Genetic traits are fascinating. At least I'm appreciative of fine quality people.....that are not like you. You don't get it.

You don’t have to have a gun “registered” to you in Las Vegas or any other Free State.
Maybe in Illinois or New York.
Unless the gun was full auto. Then you need a Tax Stamp.

Well I had some stuff stolen and was the robber sold to a pawn shop. The cops told me if I wanted to get my stuff back I had to pay for it at the cost of what the store was selling at ( instead of what they paid for it) As far as I was concerned the store was dealing with stolen good and I should have gotten my stuff back with paying a dime.

He stated something had to happen something behind the scenes. Trying to make it look like a snitch, but things do go on behind the scenes in criminal cases it’s called negotiations, which resulted in a plea bargain, which drops down your charges. I can’t stand when people try to make it by something else went down this happens and 90% of all criminal charges don’t start a fire. Where is none

Pawnshops generally pay 1/4 of the value of a pawned item. Not worth throwing the item away there.

Every time I have to watch this show (my housemate loves it) the fact that Chum Lee is so indulged infuriates me. He seems to be so up himself (especially since he got his teeth fixed). Who the F—- is this joker? And why would you keep an imbecile like him as an employee? He doesn’t appear to be a relative, so what’s the story? He used to be fairly humble and appreciative of his position, but during the latest season we’re watching her in Australia you’d swear he owns the business! Anyway, if anyone can enlighten me on what his connection to the rest of the cast is I would greatly appreciate it!
