Françoise Hardy signed her first contract with the record label Vogue in November 1961. In April 1962, shortly after finishing school, her first record Oh Oh Chéri appeared, written by Johnny Hallyday's writing duo. Her own flip side of the record, "Tous Les Garçons Et Les Filles" became a success, riding the wave of Yé-yé music in France, with two million sales.
Hardy sang in French, English, Italian, Spanish, and German. In 1963 she came fifth for Monaco in the Eurovision Song Contest with "L'amour s'en va". In 1963, she was awarded the Grand Prix Du Disque of the Charles Cros Academy.
In 1981, she married her long-time companion Jacques Dutronc, with whom she had had a son, Thomas Dutronc, in 1973. In 1994, she collaborated with the British pop group Blur for their "La Comedie" version of To The End. In May 2000, she made a comeback with the album Clair Obscur. Her son played guitar and her husband sang the duet "Puisque Vous Partez En Voyage." Iggy Pop and Étienne Daho also took part. Hardy lives near Paris and Dutronc lives in Monticello, Corsica, although they remain a couple.[citation needed]
À L'ombre De La Lune

Comble d'infortune
A grand regret
Dans les vapeurs soudaines
De ces soirées mondaines
J'ai gâché le grand amour, le vrai
Car l'unique inoubliable
Amour est si friable
Il se délite au vent
Rien ne sera jamais plus comme avant
Comme avant
A l'ombre de la lune
Je comble mes lacunes
Je bats la campagne
A grand regret
Dans les vapeurs soudaines
De ces soirées mondaines
J'ai gâché le grand amour, le vrai
Car l'unique inoubliable
Amour est si friable
Il se délite au vent
Rien ne sera jamais plus comme avant
Comme avant
In "À L'ombre De La Lune" by Françoise Hardy, the singer expresses deep regret and heartbreak over a lost love. The title translates to "In the Shadow of the Moon," and the theme of darkness and shadowy feelings permeates the song. The opening line, "Comble d'infortune," which means "full of misfortune," sets a melancholic tone from the start. The singer reflects on how they contributed to the demise of their relationship, saying "J'ai tissé le fil qui nous défait" or "I wove the thread that unravels us."
The imagery used in the song also contributes to the bittersweet feeling, with the singer mentioning the "langueurs marines" or "marine languors" and "marées salines" or "saltwater tides." These naturally occurring phenomena represent the ebb and flow of her emotions and the ups and downs of her relationship. Despite acknowledging the fragility of love, the singer still mourns and longs for what was lost: "Rien ne sera jamais plus comme avant" or "Nothing will ever be the same as before."
Overall, "À L'ombre De La Lune" captures the pain and complexity of lost love, as well as the sense of longing that can linger even after it's gone.
