Françoise Hardy signed her first contract with the record label Vogue in November 1961. In April 1962, shortly after finishing school, her first record Oh Oh Chéri appeared, written by Johnny Hallyday's writing duo. Her own flip side of the record, "Tous Les Garçons Et Les Filles" became a success, riding the wave of Yé-yé music in France, with two million sales.
Hardy sang in French, English, Italian, Spanish, and German. In 1963 she came fifth for Monaco in the Eurovision Song Contest with "L'amour s'en va". In 1963, she was awarded the Grand Prix Du Disque of the Charles Cros Academy.
In 1981, she married her long-time companion Jacques Dutronc, with whom she had had a son, Thomas Dutronc, in 1973. In 1994, she collaborated with the British pop group Blur for their "La Comedie" version of To The End. In May 2000, she made a comeback with the album Clair Obscur. Her son played guitar and her husband sang the duet "Puisque Vous Partez En Voyage." Iggy Pop and Étienne Daho also took part. Hardy lives near Paris and Dutronc lives in Monticello, Corsica, although they remain a couple.[citation needed]
Il est des choses

Que l'on ne voudrait pas
Qu'un jour peut-être
Tu découvriras
Tu comprendras
Avec les années
Qu'un tel amour
Tout fait si mal quand on aime
Et tu auras de la peine
Mais quand je serai loin
Passera ton chagrin
Ce sont ces choses
Qui finiront un jour
Par tout gâcher
Et pourtant, mon amour
Dis-toi toujours
Que je t'ai aimé
Même si c'est moi
Qui doit te quitter
Je souffrirai plus que toi
Ne fais pas ces yeux-là
Je sais que tu m'en veux déjà
Dis-toi toujours
Que je t'ai aimé
Même si c'est moi
Qui te fais pleurer
Je souffrirai plus que toi
Ne fais pas ces yeux-là
Je sais que tu m'en veux déjà
The song "Il est des choses" by Francoise Hardy expresses the pain of a breakup and the regrets and difficult decisions that often accompany such a situation. The singer sings about things that she never wanted to reveal to her loved one, but which may be discovered one day. She acknowledges that over time, he may come to understand that their love was not meant to last. The pain of love is apparent as she suggests he will have difficulty coping with their separation. However, she recognizes that this pain will eventually fade as he moves on.
The singer notes that it is these "things" that will eventually ruin what they had, even though she still loves him deeply. Despite the heartbreak, she tells him to always remember that she loved him, and reminds him that it is she who must leave. The singer acknowledges that she will suffer more in the breakup, but she implores him not to look at her with anger or resentment. She understands that he may already bear some ill will towards her, but she wants him to know that she loved him and always will, even though they must part ways.
The lyrics of "Il est des choses" reflect the sadness of a love that is ending, but also speak to the need to move on from such sorrow. The singer acknowledges the pain, but ultimately recognizes the necessity of letting go for the sake of both parties involved.
