Françoise Hardy signed her first contract with the record label Vogue in November 1961. In April 1962, shortly after finishing school, her first record Oh Oh Chéri appeared, written by Johnny Hallyday's writing duo. Her own flip side of the record, "Tous Les Garçons Et Les Filles" became a success, riding the wave of Yé-yé music in France, with two million sales.
Hardy sang in French, English, Italian, Spanish, and German. In 1963 she came fifth for Monaco in the Eurovision Song Contest with "L'amour s'en va". In 1963, she was awarded the Grand Prix Du Disque of the Charles Cros Academy.
In 1981, she married her long-time companion Jacques Dutronc, with whom she had had a son, Thomas Dutronc, in 1973. In 1994, she collaborated with the British pop group Blur for their "La Comedie" version of To The End. In May 2000, she made a comeback with the album Clair Obscur. Her son played guitar and her husband sang the duet "Puisque Vous Partez En Voyage." Iggy Pop and Étienne Daho also took part. Hardy lives near Paris and Dutronc lives in Monticello, Corsica, although they remain a couple.[citation needed]
Je serai là pour toi

par-delà ta nuit
tant et tant de soleil
derrière tes murs gris
mais tu ne les vois pas
car tu restes chez toi
il y a tant de ciel
ta porte est-elle si vieille
quelle ne s'ouvre pas?
ou restes-tu chez toi
par peur d'attraper froid?
tu sais, j'ai eu froid aussi
tu sais, j'ai pleuré un jour
où je suis sortie
mais tu vois, aujourd'hui,
je ne veux plus rentrer
il y a peu de gens
que l'on peut aimer
mais si tu voulais pourtant
j'aimerais t'aimer
le jour où tu voudras
je serai là pour toi
The lyrics of Françoise Hardy's song Je serai là pour toi are infused with feelings of empathy, encouragement and love. It starts off by talking about dreams and the sun that exist beyond the singer's (presumably a friend or lover) night and gray walls. However, the singer notices that the person doesn't seem to see it because they stay at home. They go on to ask if the person's door is so old that it doesn't open, or if they are afraid of catching a cold by leaving the house.
The chorus offers comfort to the person by letting them know that the singer has also experienced being cold and shedding tears in the past. However, things have changed, and the singer doesn't want to return to that state. The second verse talks about how few people there are that can be loved, and how the singer would like to love the person, but only if they want it too. What's encouraging is that the singer finishes the verse by saying that when the person is ready, they will be there for them.
The song is essentially about empathy and encouraging someone to step out of their comfort zone. It's about even if someone feels lonely, there is a world full of dreams and love out there, and all they need to do is open their door and face it.
