Françoise Hardy signed her first contract with the record label Vogue in November 1961. In April 1962, shortly after finishing school, her first record Oh Oh Chéri appeared, written by Johnny Hallyday's writing duo. Her own flip side of the record, "Tous Les Garçons Et Les Filles" became a success, riding the wave of Yé-yé music in France, with two million sales.
Hardy sang in French, English, Italian, Spanish, and German. In 1963 she came fifth for Monaco in the Eurovision Song Contest with "L'amour s'en va". In 1963, she was awarded the Grand Prix Du Disque of the Charles Cros Academy.
In 1981, she married her long-time companion Jacques Dutronc, with whom she had had a son, Thomas Dutronc, in 1973. In 1994, she collaborated with the British pop group Blur for their "La Comedie" version of To The End. In May 2000, she made a comeback with the album Clair Obscur. Her son played guitar and her husband sang the duet "Puisque Vous Partez En Voyage." Iggy Pop and Étienne Daho also took part. Hardy lives near Paris and Dutronc lives in Monticello, Corsica, although they remain a couple.[citation needed]

The lyrics of Francoise Hardy's song Les petits garçons speaks about a lover who is uninterested and bored. The song is about the struggle of trying to change someone's behavior and personality when they are not ready to change. She is searching for an answer as to what she can do to make him motivated and interested, but she doesn't have any ideas. The repetition of the questions "que faut-il faire?" and "que puis-je faire?" emphasizes the confusion and desperation of her situation.
The title of the song Les petits garçons translates to "little boys" which is a metaphor for the uninterested and bored lover she is singing about. She compares him to other little boys who are also bored and uninterested in life, stuck in their mundane routines. The line "ce n'est pas moi que tu regardes au fond de mes yeux, tout ce que tu veux, c'est te voir un peu" means that he is not looking into her eyes, but he wants to see a reflection of himself.
She links the uninterested behavior of the lover to a lack of ability to love. The lyrics "les petits garçons qui s'ennuient ne savent pas aimer, ils n'aiment qu'eux" suggest that self-centeredness and boredom with life leave little room for love. In the end, she still cares for the lover and continues to look into his eyes in search of a spark of interest, despite his unresponsiveness.
