Françoise Hardy signed her first contract with the record label Vogue in November 1961. In April 1962, shortly after finishing school, her first record Oh Oh Chéri appeared, written by Johnny Hallyday's writing duo. Her own flip side of the record, "Tous Les Garçons Et Les Filles" became a success, riding the wave of Yé-yé music in France, with two million sales.
Hardy sang in French, English, Italian, Spanish, and German. In 1963 she came fifth for Monaco in the Eurovision Song Contest with "L'amour s'en va". In 1963, she was awarded the Grand Prix Du Disque of the Charles Cros Academy.
In 1981, she married her long-time companion Jacques Dutronc, with whom she had had a son, Thomas Dutronc, in 1973. In 1994, she collaborated with the British pop group Blur for their "La Comedie" version of To The End. In May 2000, she made a comeback with the album Clair Obscur. Her son played guitar and her husband sang the duet "Puisque Vous Partez En Voyage." Iggy Pop and Étienne Daho also took part. Hardy lives near Paris and Dutronc lives in Monticello, Corsica, although they remain a couple.[citation needed]
Saurai-je

Et saurai-je aussi t'aimer?
Tout ce que tu peux attendre
Vais-je te l'apporter?
Saurai-je te faire oublier
Ce que furent d'autres pour toi
En venant te procurer
Car tout ce que je veux
Tout ce que je souhaite
C'est de te rendre heureux
Le temps que tu acceptes
Saurai-je bien correspondre
Au moindre de tes espoirs?
Pourrai-je ainsi te répondre
Sans jamais te décevoir?
Et lorsque le jour viendra
Où tu s'en devras finir
Deviendrai-je alors, pour toi
Ton plus beau souvenir?
The lyrics to Françoise Hardy's song "Saurai-je" are contemplative and filled with questions about the singer's ability to understand and love her partner. The first verse begins with the question, "Will I one day understand you?" The singer wonders if she will be able to comprehend the depths of her partner's personality and emotions. In the next line, she questions whether she will be able to love her partner as well. The singer is unsure of her feelings and questions her ability to be the kind of partner her loved one needs.
The second verse continues the theme of uncertainty. The singer's partner has a past she worries she won't be able to make her forget. The singer also hopes to be able to bring her partner the happiness and joy she desires. The third verse takes a slightly different turn where the singer's concerns focus on not being able to live up to her partner's expectations. She wonders if she will be able to correspond to all of her partner's hopes without ever disappointing them.
The song concludes with the worrying thought of what will happen when it all ends. The singer questions whether, when it's over, she will be her partner's most beautiful memory. The song is an expression of deep uncertainty and insecurity that will resonate with anyone struggling to understand and express their emotions.
