Françoise Hardy signed her first contract with the record label Vogue in November 1961. In April 1962, shortly after finishing school, her first record Oh Oh Chéri appeared, written by Johnny Hallyday's writing duo. Her own flip side of the record, "Tous Les Garçons Et Les Filles" became a success, riding the wave of Yé-yé music in France, with two million sales.
Hardy sang in French, English, Italian, Spanish, and German. In 1963 she came fifth for Monaco in the Eurovision Song Contest with "L'amour s'en va". In 1963, she was awarded the Grand Prix Du Disque of the Charles Cros Academy.
In 1981, she married her long-time companion Jacques Dutronc, with whom she had had a son, Thomas Dutronc, in 1973. In 1994, she collaborated with the British pop group Blur for their "La Comedie" version of To The End. In May 2000, she made a comeback with the album Clair Obscur. Her son played guitar and her husband sang the duet "Puisque Vous Partez En Voyage." Iggy Pop and Étienne Daho also took part. Hardy lives near Paris and Dutronc lives in Monticello, Corsica, although they remain a couple.[citation needed]
Star

tout ce que je sens
mais ce soir j'aim'rais dire
des choses que je sais vraiment
star, devenir star
The lyrics to "Star" by Françoise Hardy discuss the glamour and fleeting nature of fame. Hardy admits that she doesn't always know how to describe what she feels, but she wants to express the truth about becoming a star. While it may seem like a beautiful story, being a star is only temporary, and the public only sees the glory while ignoring the rest. Hardy acknowledges that she is feeling a little depressed and may be boring her audience, but she feels like a lion in an arena when walking onstage. She and her fellow performers have to defend themselves and their reputation, and some never fully recover from a bad experience. The song ends with Hardy discussing the difficulty of adjusting to life after fame and how losing the adoration of others can be a heartbreaking experience.
One interesting fact about this song is that it was written by Hardy herself, which was unusual for female artists at the time. Another is that the line about "walking too fast without having had time to learn to live" was reportedly inspired by the death of Hardy's longtime friend and fellow musician, Mike Brant. "Star" was released as a single in 1977 and appeared on her album, "Musique saoule." The song was relatively successful in France, reaching #8 on the charts. Additionally, the line "On passe sa vie dans des bars tristes, des music-halls" ("We spend our lives in sad bars, music halls") has become a well-known phrase in French culture.
The chords for "Star" are not available, as the song was recorded with a full orchestra and does not have a standard guitar or piano accompaniment.
In summary, "Star" by Françoise Hardy is a poignant reflection on the nature of fame and the challenges faced by those who achieve it. Despite the glamour and allure of stardom, it can be a fleeting and bittersweet experience, leaving many performers feeling disillusioned and alone. This song is notable for its introspective lyrics and memorable phrases, which have resonated with listeners for decades.
