Françoise Hardy signed her first contract with the record label Vogue in November 1961. In April 1962, shortly after finishing school, her first record Oh Oh Chéri appeared, written by Johnny Hallyday's writing duo. Her own flip side of the record, "Tous Les Garçons Et Les Filles" became a success, riding the wave of Yé-yé music in France, with two million sales.
Hardy sang in French, English, Italian, Spanish, and German. In 1963 she came fifth for Monaco in the Eurovision Song Contest with "L'amour s'en va". In 1963, she was awarded the Grand Prix Du Disque of the Charles Cros Academy.
In 1981, she married her long-time companion Jacques Dutronc, with whom she had had a son, Thomas Dutronc, in 1973. In 1994, she collaborated with the British pop group Blur for their "La Comedie" version of To The End. In May 2000, she made a comeback with the album Clair Obscur. Her son played guitar and her husband sang the duet "Puisque Vous Partez En Voyage." Iggy Pop and Étienne Daho also took part. Hardy lives near Paris and Dutronc lives in Monticello, Corsica, although they remain a couple.[citation needed]
Viens là
Francoise Hardy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The song Viens là by Françoise Hardy is a love song that speaks to the vulnerability of someone who has been hurt in love. The song begins by asking the listener to come and cry in the singer's arms without feeling ashamed. The singer then describes the listener's heart as being strange because it always races at a hundred miles an hour and has a bad memory for getting hurt by people who were not kind. The singer comforts the listener by saying that those people did not deserve their love.
The song also touches on the envy the singer feels towards the listener's ability to love so easily and so often, even though it brings them so much pain. The singer knows that it's rare to find someone who loves as often as the listener, and this is something to be cherished. In the end, the singer asks the listener to come and tell them what's wrong, promising to be a shoulder to cry on.
Overall, Viens là is a touching song about the ups and downs of love, and the pain that comes with it. It's a reminder to be kind to oneself, to allow oneself to be vulnerable, and to keep on loving no matter how many times it ends in heartbreak.
