I'll Be Seing You
Francoise Hardy And Iggy Pop Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'll be seeing you in all the old familiar places
That this heart of mine embraces all day through
In that small cafe, the park across the way
The children's carousel
The chestnut trees, the wishing well

I'll be seeing you in every lovely summer's day
In everything that's light and gay
I'll always think of you that way

I'll find you in the morning sun
And when the night is new
I'll be looking at the moon
But I'll be seeing you
I'll find you in the morning sun
And when the night is new

I'll be looking at the moon
But I'll be seeing you

Overall Meaning

The song "I'll Be Seeing You" is an iconic love song sung as a duet between French singer Francoise Hardy and American singer Iggy Pop. The lyrics of the song are about the memories of a past love that remain etched in one's heart and the way in which they continue to show up in every aspect of one's life. The song begins with the lyric "I'll be seeing you in all the old familiar places," which sets the mood for the entire song. The singer of the song explains that the memories of their lover continue to be present in every part of everyday life, from the small cafe they used to visit to the park across the way, the children's carousel, the chestnut trees, and the wishing well.

As the song continues, the singer expresses that their love continues to be present in every lovely summer's day and everything that's light and gay. The memories of the past love are so strong that they will always think of them that way. The song is a poignant reminder of the love that once was and a testament to the way that love stays with us long after it has ended.

In the final verse, the singer explains that they will find their lover in the morning sun and when the night is new, and that they will be looking at the moon but still see them. The song conveys a powerful message about the way that love endures through time and memory, and the way that those we love stay with us in everything we do and see.

I'll be seeing you
In all the old familiar places
That this heart of mine embraces
All day through.

In that small cafe;
The park across the way;
The children's carosel;
The chestnut trees;
The wishin' well.

I'll be seeing you
In every lovely summer's day;
In every thing that's light and gay.
I'll always think of you that way.

I'll find you
In the morning sun
And when the night is new.
I'll be looking at the moon,
But I'll be seeing you.

I'll be seeing you
In every lovely summer's day;
In every thing that's light and gay.
I'll always think of you that way.

I'll find you
In the morning sun
And when the night is new.
I'll be looking at the moon,
But I'll be seeing you.

the roughness of Iggy Pop's voice is an excellent complement to the beauty and sweetness of Francoise Hardy's voice, n'est-ce pas?

Back in the early 70s, I'd sometimes stop at the Denny's restaurant on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood after a long night at the recording studio. Often, there would be Iggy with his retinue of friends & hangers on. Once he worked at our studio with David Bowie producing. I was the guy they had help them set up & take care of any problems. A problem they had turned into a special effect on the recording. Interesting times they were. peace royeh
