Career
The band had its peak of popularity in the 1970s and toured extensively playing such venues as California Jam II together with bands such as Aerosmith and Heart. Marino is still active; as of 2007, recording and touring under his own name and has also been involved in blues recordings with other artists as well.
Trivia
* To explain the name, Mahogany Rush, Marino says, "In fact, the mental condition (the acid trip) that became my daily life in my early teens, was due to having taken psychedelic drugs to the point of being hospitalized, and that condition produced, eventually, the name or term "mahogany rush", so in a way it was "related" to the drugs themselves. But it was more related to the mental experience. Mahogany Rush was, basically, the only way I could describe a certain aspect of that "trip" to others who couldn't understand it at the time, and still can't really do so now."
* Early on in his career, it was claimed on the music press that he has stated that he is a reincarnation of Jimi Hendrix, a claim that was substantiated by his playing of Hendrix classics with considerable virtuosity. This claim was dismissed by Marino himself as falsified information created by the press and he has continued to forge a style of his own through the 1970s up to present day. This is discussed in-depth on the MySpace page for Frank Marino & Mahagony Rush.
* Marino started to record his first album, "Maxoom", when he was only 16.
* Frank Marino has three daughters.
* When he quit music business in 1993 he supported his family by building computers. After returning to record and perform, his wife Denise took over the computer business.
* Frank Marino is Orthodox Christian.
* The Song: "Something's Coming Our Way" is about expectation of a day in which we all need to come in terms with our way of life and how we have spent our time here and the fact that we have to understand that the day of judgment that we refer to being someday in the future is in fact upon us at the moment.
* Frank Marino is the uncle of the guitarist and songwriter Danny Marino of the melodic death metal band The Agonist.

Buddy
Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
and we rode together on Angels wings
and I didn't really care what the future might bring
when I would listen to him playin' and a singin'
When I was feelin' down, he'd lift my spirits high
and at the same time his magic music made me cry
and then one day he just up and died
and I felt all alone as I stood screamin'
Can you hear me friend?
Buddy!, I didn't see this comin' 'round the bend
Buddy!, Is this the way your story ends?
Well you rest easy and I'll carry on singin'
Well, And now I stand alone and I play my game
Well he's gone away and he didn't even know my name
But, I knew his, he was a man of fame
Well rest easy Jimi and I'll carry on singin'
Cause I said, Buddy! What has happened,
Can you hear me friend?
Buddy!, I didn't see this comin' 'round the bend
Buddy!, Is this the way your story ends
Well rest down easy and I'll carry on singin'
These lyrics are a tribute to a friend and fellow musician who has passed away. The singer describes how they and their friends shared many experiences, riding together on "Angels wings" and listening to their talented friend play and sing. The lyrics express the singer's deep appreciation and emotional connection to their friend's music, which could lift their spirits and move them to tears. However, one day their friend suddenly died, leaving the singer feeling alone and devastated.
The singer addresses their friend, using the name "Buddy", and expresses their disbelief and shock at their passing. They wonder how this could have happened and express their sadness over the fact that their friend's story has come to an end. Despite their grief, the singer promises to carry on singing in their friend's memory and expresses the hope that their friend can rest easy in peace.
These lyrics show the deep emotional impact that music can have, both in terms of the way it connects people and the way it can evoke strong emotions. The song also highlights the way that music can provide a sense of comfort and healing in times of grief and loss.
