The first stanza of Frank Quintero’s song “Agua Dulce” speaks about the captivating beauty of the person he’s addressing. He is drawn by her beauty; he stops to gaze at her and spends hours contemplating her beauty through her eyes. It gives him pleasure, and the way he emphasizes on the ‘impulse’ or force that drives him to her suggests strong attraction towards her. The second stanza speaks about how her warmth and smile make his sleepless hours peaceful; even the slightest breeze brings her thoughts and comfort to him.
“Agua Dulce” which translates to “Sweet Water” in English refers to the refreshing and sweetness of the water that the persona wants to travel on. The chorus illustrates his desire to journey with her, preferably in her ‘waters.’ The waters symbolize her calm and soothing aura that brings peace and tranquility to him. He wants to embark on this journey, letting go of all inhibitions, and be free. The phrase ‘un punto de sal’ (a point of salt) represents a small touch of reality, implying that although he wants to be free, he is aware of the constraints of the relationship. The third stanza is a repetition of his desire to be with her, in the middle of the sea, and how he desires to stay with her in her comfort and warm embrace.
