Body And Soul
Frank Sinatra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

My heart is sad and lonely
For you I sigh, for you dear only
Why haven't you seen it
I'm all for you body and soul

I spend my days in longing
And wondering why it's me you're ogling
I tell you I mean it
I'm all for you body and soul

I can't believe it
It's hard to conceive it
That you'd turn away romance
Are you pretending
It looks like the ending
Unless I could have just one more chance to prove, dear

My life a wreck you're making
You know I'm yours for just the taking
I'd gladly surrender myself to you body and soul

My life a wreck you're making

You know I'm yours for just the taking
I would gladly surrender myself to you body and soul

There was a video, featuring Frank Jr with a new arrangement of this song but using Frank's earlier vocalizing . And there were comments from  musicians who had accompanied Frank on many occasions. Then it showed Frank singing at the earlier studio microphone.. You can see the emotion he was putting into the song. and then when it was over he quietly closed the book as if to say goodbye.  I get choked up just thinking about it. I bookmarked it, should have downloaded it because after viewing a few times suddenly it was gone. I haven't been able to find it anywhere. It was about twenty minutes long.. If anybody finds it put in You Tube please.

It's sad when one compares this recording with Frank's prior recording from 1947. In the earlier version Frank's voice is soft, smooth, and simply wonderful. Bobby Hackett's trumpet added something very special. I'm sorry that Frank waited so long to record it again. I can imagine how it would have sounded with a Nelson Riddle or Gordon Jenkins arrangement in the mid or late '50s.

This is a beautiful song, as well. The earlier interpretation that Frank gave, of Body and Soul, was youthful and charming, but this man has had loves and has lived life searching for his match. He sings better here, in my opinion, and his voice is just as smooth.
