Witchcraft
Frank Sinatra / Nelson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Those fingers in my hair
That sly come-hither stare
That strips my conscience bare
It's witchcraft

And I've got no defense for it
The heat is too intense for it
What good would common sense for it do?

'Cause it's witchcraft
Wicked witchcraft
And although, I know, it's strictly taboo

When you arouse the need in me
My heart says yes indeed in me
Proceed with what you're leading me to

It's such an ancient pitch
But one I wouldn't switch
'Cause there's no nicer witch than you

'Cause it's witchcraft
That crazy witchcraft
And although, I know, it's strictly taboo

When you arouse the need in me
My heart says yes indeed in me
Proceed with what you're leading me to

It's such an ancient pitch

But one that I'd never switch
'Cause there's no nicer witch than you

Overall Meaning

The song "Witchcraft" by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. is a classic ballad about being under the spell of love. Sinatra sings about a woman who casts a spell on him with the way she looks at him and touches his hair, leaving him with no defense against her. He acknowledges that their love is taboo, and yet feels compelled to give into it anyway. The lyrics describe the feeling of being completely powerless to resist the pull of this mysterious, alluring force.

One interesting aspect of the song is the collaboration between these three legendary crooners. The trio, often referred to as the "Rat Pack," was known for their stylish performances and friendships. This song is a perfect example of the chemistry they had together, with each singer taking a turn at the microphone to add their own unique flavor to the song.

Another interesting fact about "Witchcraft" is that it was written by Cy Coleman and Carolyn Leigh, two of the most successful songwriters of the time. Leigh was also the first woman to win a Tony Award for Best Original Score for her work on "Little Me." The song was first released by Sinatra on his album "Sinatra and Swingin' Brass," but was later recorded by Martin and Davis Jr. as well.

+Frank Devito Nelson with Frank were an amazing pairing. Listening to what they recorded back in the late 50s early 60s it's like WOW what a sound! So cool to see someone post with memories from that time.

Wow thanks for your response and please don't take my remark as uncomplimentary to yourself. I would give my eye teeth to have been good enough to play guitar on any of the stuff you did. I'm just particularly impressed with that track -  it had everything even though my experience is rock and roll.
