Along with Jobim’s original compositions, the album features three standards from the ‘Great American Songbook’, (“Change Partners”, “I Concentrate On You”, and “Baubles, Bangles and Beads”) arranged in the bossa nova style.
Sinatra and Jobim reconvened to record a follow up in 1969, with arrangements by Eumir Deodato. Though the recordings were released briefly on 8 track tape, as 'Sinatra-Jobim', the regular album release was suspended. The recordings did not appear on album until 1971, when issued as side 1 of 'Sinatra & Company', with Sinatra solo recordings occupying Side 2.
Three songs recorded at the 'Sinatra-Jobim' session – "Bonita", "Sabiá", and "Off Key (Desafinado)" – were omitted from 'Sinatra & Company' : "Sabiá" was released in the USA in 1970 as the flip side of the 45 rpm single "Lady Day" and appeared with "Bonita" on the 1977 compilation 'Portrait of Sinatra' and the 1979 compilation, 'Sinatra-Jobim Sessions' ; "Off Key (Desafinado)" was unreleased until its inclusion on the box set 'The Complete Reprise Studio Recordings' in 1995.
In 2010 the Concord Records label issued ''Sinatra-Jobim: The Complete Reprise Recordings', a collection of all the tracks recorded in the 1967 and 1969 sessions by the artists.
If You Never Come To Me
Frank Sinatra & Antônio Carlos Jobim Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Or the peaks where winter snows
What's the use of the waves that break in the cool of the evening
What is the evening without you, it's nothing
It may be you will never come, if you never come to me
What's the use of my wonderful dreams, and why would they need me
Where would they lead me without you? To nowhere
What's the use of my wonderful dreams, and why would they need me
Where would they lead me without you? To nowhere
The lyrics for "If You Never Come to Me" by Frank Sinatra and Antonio Carlos Jobim express the sentiment that life and existence have no meaning without the presence of the one you love. The song starts by stating that the beauty of the moonlight and snow-capped mountains holds no value when the person you love is not around. The waves that break at the shore in the evening are pointless without the company of that one special person. The evening, in itself, is useless without their presence.
The chorus of the song continues as a plea to the loved one, expressing that the singer's dreams are worthless without them. Without their presence and love, the singer's life would be empty and unfulfilling. The lyrics end with a repetition of the second verse as a reminder of the fact that life without the loved one is meaningless.
Overall, "If You Never Come to Me" is an emotional and heartfelt song that highlights the importance of love and companionship in life. The lyrics convey a deep sense of longing and desire for the loved one, emphasizing their value and importance in the singer's life.

There's no use of a moonlight glow
Or the peaks where winter snows
What's the use of the waves that will break
In the cool of the evening?
What is the evening without you?
It's nothing
It may be, you will never come
If you never come to me
What's the use of my wonderful dreams?
And why would they need me?
Where would they lead me without you?

Simply perfect!!!!!!!!!!

This is a reinvention of music. Sinatra sometimes strained to get through some songs but never with Jobim. They were brothers. You get to hear some solo's here too and it shows how the band loved this music.
