From March 13 to April 9, 1940 Sinatra sang with the Tommy Dorsey Band at the New York Paramount, the venue in which he, as a solo singer, caused pandemonium during the coming years. On record, Sinatra cut 29 singles with Dorsey during 1941 and was named Male Vocalist of the Year by Billboard that May. His departure from the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra was announced on stage at the Circle Theatre in Indianapolis on August 28, 1942
Once in a While
Frank Sinatra & Tommy Dorsey Lyrics

One little thought to me
Though someone else may be
Nearer your heart?
Once in a while will you dream
Of the moments I shared with you
Moments before we two
In love's smoldering ember
One spark may remain
If love still can remember
That spark may burn again
I know that I'll be contented
With yesterday's memory
Knowing you think of me
Once in a while
In love's smoldering ember
One spark may remain
If love still can remember
The spark may burn again
I know that I'll be contented
With yesterday's memory
Knowing you think of me
Once in a while
The song "Once in a While" by Frank Sinatra is about a lover who wants to somehow reconnect with their former flame who has moved on with someone else. The song speaks about how the lover still holds the loved one's memory dear in their heart, even though they are no longer together. They ask their ex-partner to think about them once in a while, and still hold a place for them in their heart.
The lyrics emphasize the emotional power of memories, and how they can stay with someone for a long time. The chorus speaks about how even a small flicker of emotion can set those memories ablaze once again, rekindling the feelings that were shared between two people at one point in the past.
This song is a bittersweet ballad that explores the intricacies of lost love and the longing for a connection with the past. It conveys the importance of memories, and how they can be held onto and cherished through time even if the person is no longer in one's life.
