1927: The greatest Beiderbecke year, and here is one of his greatest solos ever.

Rodrigo Cecchetto

24 y/o Bix, 23 y/o Jimmy Dorsey, 23 y/o Bill Rank, 26 y/o Frankie Trumbauer, 23 y/o Paul Mertz, 26 y/o Howdy Quicksell and 25 y/o Chauncey Morehouse.
It's actually insane!

Odi Etamo

It is, and yet it’s not. Rock was the same. The Beatles were still in their twenties when they broke up.

msjazzmeblues

Bix is all over this one. He must've hardly taken a breath except during the solos by Rank, Mertz, Tram, and Dorsey!

Solet

Fantastic night pictures, and fabulous music

bob boscarato

They don't make 'em like that anymore!

Wayne Engle

They never DID make one like Bix!

How does such a magnificent piece of music have only 10,063 views after more than five years? Sad. At this rate, a lot of great music is in danger of being forgotten altogether.

The description lists Frank Trumbauer as playing “Cms.” What is that? I thought he played the sax. (Sometimes abbreviations make me a little nuts.)

msjazzmeblues

It means C-melody saxophone, Odi, an instrument that plays lower than the soprano and alto sax, , but a bit higher than the tenor sax. Tram also played alto sax occasionally.

David O'Banion

Super!
