In His Eyes
Frank Wildhorn Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And see my tears run down the window pane
I sit and watch the sky
And I can hear it breathe a sigh
I think of him, how we were
And when I think of him
Then I remember, remember
Where my heart longs to be
In his eyes I see a gentle glow
And that\'s where I\'ll be safe, I know
Safe in his arms, close to his heart
But I don\'t know quite where to start
By looking in his eyes
Will I see beyond tomorrow
By looking in his eyes
Will I see beyond the sorrow
That I feel
Will his eyes reveal to me
Promises or lies
But he can\'t conceal from me
The love in his eyes
(His eyes)
I know there every look
(His eyes)
They\'re like an open book
(His eyes)
But most of all the look that that hypnotizes
If I\'m wise
I will walk away, and gladly
But sadly, I\'m not wise
It\'s hard to tuck away the memories
That you prize
Love is worth forgiving for
Now I realize
Everything worth living for
Is there in his eyes
Love is worth forgiving for
Now I realize
Everything worth living for
Is there in his eyes
The opening lines of "In His Eyes" describe the singer sitting and watching the rain, lamenting a lost love. She is reminded of him when she thinks of their past relationship. The Chorus talks about how she longs to be in the man's eyes, where she sees a gentle glow and feels safe. She wonders whether she can see beyond tomorrow and the sorrow of their past, and whether his eyes reveal only promises or lies.
The second verse brings out the singerās vulnerability and confusion as she is caught up with the idea of seeing beyond her sorrow through the manās eyes. She feels safe in his arms but doesnāt know where to begin. The following lines bring out the conflict within her, that she should walk away, given the pain in her memories, but she is not wise, as she canāt let go of the love she had for him. She comes to understand that love is what makes life worth living; love is worth forgiving for, and everything worth living for is there in his eyes.
