Dancin' Fool
Frank Zappa Lyrics

Don't know much about dancin'
That's why I got this song
One of my legs is shorter than the other
N' both my feet's too long
'Course now right along with 'em
I got no natural rhythm
But I go dancin' every night
Hopin' one day I might get it right
I'm a dancin' fool, I'm a
Dancin' fool
I hear that beat; I jump outa my seat,
But I can't compete, 'cause I'm a
Dancin' fool, I'm a
Dancin' fool

The disco folks all dressed up
Like they's fit to kill
I walk on in 'n' see 'em there
Gonna give them all a thrill
When they see me comin'
They all steps aside
They has a fit while I commit
My social suicide, I'm a
Dancin' fool, I'm a
Dancin' fool
The beat goes on
And I'm so wrong
The beat goes on
And I'm so wrong
The beat goes on 'n' I'm so wrong
The beat goes on 'n' I'm so wrong
The beat goes on 'n' I'm so wrong
I may be totally wrong, but I'm a
Dancin' fool, I'm a
Dancin' fool
Youwsa, youwsa, youwsa
I got it all together now
With my very own disco clothes, hey!
My shirt's half open, t'show you my chains
N' the spoon for up my nose
I am really somethin'
That's what you'd prob'ly say
So smoke your little smoke
Drink your little drink
While I dance the night away, I'm a
Dancin' fool, I'm a
Dancin' fool,

I may be totally wrong, but I'm a
I may be totally wrong, but I'm a
I may be totally wrong, but I'm a
Fool-uh!

Hey darlin', can I buy ya a drink?
Lookin' for mister goodbar? here he is
Wait a minute, I've got it, you're an italian!
Hah?
Yer Jewish?
Love your nails, you must be a libra
Your place or mine?

(Before you come at me with: "The song is just a joke." reponses, I'm talking about the bigger picture here, not just this particular song.) I came here out of interest when I read about how Frank Zappa made a satire song about disco, and I personally really like disco. Especially italo disco. Ironically, Zappa mentions Italians in this song.
The four on the floor, the upbeat tempo around 120 bpm, the danceability, the futuristic drum effects, the tight twangy guitars (like Nile Rodgers' playing), the spacey vocals, the rhythmic synth stabs, the atmospheric pads, the colourful synaesthetic bell sounds, and so forth.

Disco literally was the immediate basis for other big major genres like house & techno. Disco laid groundworks for many electronic music genres to come.
And deny it or not, the synthesizer has been the most influential, expressive and diverse (actually a group of instruments, with many categories like FM, substractive, additive, physical modelling, wavetable, etc.) musical instruments of all. Even more then the electric guitar in western music.
Electronic music is very diverse for obvious reasons.
A synthesizer literally synthesizes sounds, new sonic capabilities, many kinds of timbres/sound colours, many of whom not possible with acoustic or electric/electromechanical instruments.

Even though I'm not into house myself to be honest.
It's still ironic enough, at the 'disco demolition night' in 1979, the game that was supposed to be played in that stadium, was between the teams from Chicago and Detroit.
With Chicago being the center of the house movement & Detroit being the center of techno in the next few years.

Anyway, my point.
Do something you love without harming another, and people will take a crap on it. But when they push & enforce their obnoxious beliefs on you, you just have to take it.

When you literally can't leave the house without being disturbed, that's all ok. When you're imprisoned (not talking about covid) and can't make social contacts because of their actions, you're supposed to just take it and suffer, or you're going to get shunned & stigmatized even further.
When peoples beliefs cause species extinction, environmental destruction, depression/high blood pressure/excess stress/suicides, destroy relationships, cause reconstructive surgeries, even many deaths, ...
You're a so called 'bad person' for pointing it out, and they'll tell you to just lighten up, accept it, and tolerate it because it's 'just the way it is'.
But someone dancing for fun, now that's supposed to be a real issue?

Maybe just let people be, and take the piss out of/laugh with people & things whom are an actual problem in society and/or a dread to nature.
Instead of focussing on some peoples taste in music and desire to dance for fun.

Many just don't like to see others having fun I guess.
I know the feeling though. When others have (girl)friends, a social life, or just an outside life to begin with.
And you're isolated because of them.
They happily move on and keep practising their obnoxious, harmful indoctrinated beliefs, while you decay further day by day.
I wouldn't grant these people their happiness either.

But someones taste in music doesn't prevent you from doing your own thing.
So they're nowhere in the same ballpark.
Just my take/tip:
Make fun out of bad people instead. (I understand calling people bad or good is very dichotomic, or black & white, but some people do relatively more harm then good. So I call them 'bad' in that context.)

"one of my leg's shorter than the other" zappa taking a jab at himself after he got operated when he fell from a stage. (pushed by some crazy fan)

Bob Bobbo

Almost sounds like a power-anthem, in that context. Coming out of that accident with both his legs, he sounds ecstatic to make a "Dancin' Fool" of himself.

Zappa writes a great satire about disco. Dies in the early 90's before he can write about dubstep, metalcore and Justin Bieber. Goddammit....

Joshu Higashikata

We have weird al for that
