Fallout did that to me more than Mafia 2 did. I played both, but got to Fallout 3 first, and the Fallout series hooked me far FAR harder than Mafia ever did.

Extends beyond music too. If I were in a position to build a house from scratch it'd look right at home in a 1957 suburb and my next daily driver will be from the 1950s. And yes I will be blastin' hits period to that car from time to time.

As a mostly white man I wouldn't mind. Back in the day it looks nice on TV, but in reality that's why we now have Domestic Relations for child support and alimony stuff. Mostly abusive men ruled the roost. Hopefully you married a good guy otherwise you were basically stuck as there were very few if any jobs afforded to women (and when you would work you would get way under paid). So leaving the man would be next to impossible unless you moved home or jumped to another man right away.

My gram, that basically raised me, was born in 1914. She was one of the exceptions having to care for her husband that died from cancer suddenly when my mother was 14. Even though she managed a major store chain with a dozen or more locations she received nothing for her pension (thankfully we have social security payments)... they took her pension money and lost it on the stock market she was told.

So I'll agree that it seems like a nice time but minorities and women weren't permitted to vote or do anything of value for that matter... except tend to homes for the white men.

Love this song. It was one of the songs my dance teacher used when she taught us the Lindy in NY circa 1958. I've put it on my cellphone as my phone ringer notification. I just love when I get a phone call. Brings back such fond memories.

I am firmly convinced that much of the "women or men" thing is only myths, misconception, and misinformation perpetuated through ignorance about "love." Love, as you said, is overrated. Confusion is state of mind of most people regarding the word "love." Love and physical sexual urges are confused. Even most adults never unravel the myths and misconceptions about "love." The word "love" is overused and is nothing but a major foggy mist for most young people. That is why mistakes and heartaches dominate the lives of people in "love" matters.

sort of related, the first time I came across the word "queer" was in a book from the late 1800s we had to read in middle school. The dictionary just said the word meant "weird". I thought it was a cool sounding word so I tried using it in every day speech! Lead to an extremely awkward conversation with my parents.

I grew up listening to this song along with tons of
mid to late 1950’s songs at my grandparents house ever since I was a toddler. Sadly my grandfather is no longer alive, he passed away back in September unexpectedly to a stroke, but he introduced me to some great catchy timeless tunes. :’)

This song is over 60 years old yet I would bet most teenagers know it in 2021. They love heard it in films. Same as Sandman. Just imagine that- six decades later yet everyone still knows it. You may be partially right.

My brother was the all American kid growing up. He was popular similar to Wally Cleaver, had friends with personalities like Eddie Haskell, Richie Cunningham and the Fonz. He enjoys baseball, westerns and James Bond films. Finished school and retired from the military. On top of all that, he married his High School sweetheart and they're STILL together. He simply happens to be black.
