Born in Jamaica in 1965, Blake was born blind but as a child had his sight partially restored by an operation on a hospital ship. He sang for, and impressed Stevie Wonder when Wonder visited the school that Blake attended, prompting him to pursue a singing career.
Adopting the stage name Frankie Paul, he first found fame in the early 1980s, and he recorded prolifically throughout the decade. He has recorded for virtually every producer and studio in Jamaica at some time, and has been known to release several albums a year.
Notable works of Frankie Paul include the popular "Sara" and "Worries in the Dance".
Paul has resided in Gambia since 1994. In January 2016 he underwent surgery to amputate a foot and part of his leg.
Frankie Paul died on 18 May 2017 at the University Hospital of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica.
Citation
"Frankie Paul has a voice that improves with each release and, although initially compared with Dennis Brown, he has evolved a strange nasal, throaty style that makes him sound much older. It's the sheer exuberance of his best performances that give away his youthfulness, and his two London appearances have been joyous occasions." - NME (4 May 1985)

Here I Go Again
Frankie Paul Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Watch it now 'cos
here I go again.
I've been hurt so much before.
I told myself,
yes I did,
no more, no more won't get hurt any more.
There I was by myself
doin' all right
until I saw you last night.
And then I knew that
here I go again.
I cannot help it.
Here I go again.
Making the same mistakes,
heading for more heartaches.
What can I do when there's nothing I can do?
I looked in your eyes and I knew that I was blue.
What 's the use?
I'll just give in.
Try as I may,
and I do,
I'll never win, never win, baby I'll never win.
Now, you're here, so close to me.
I can't resist you,
and I knew when I kissed you.
I'm gonna sing now
here I go again.
Watch it now 'cos
here I go again.
Falling in love, in love.
Falling in love, in love.
Falling in love, in love.
Falling in love.
The lyrics to Frankie Paul's "Here I go again" are about someone who has been hurt before in a previous relationship and has vowed to protect themselves from being hurt again in future relationships. However, when seeing someone they are attracted to, they cannot resist the temptation of falling in love again, even though they know it may lead to more heartache. The lyrics express the feelings of vulnerability and helplessness that come with falling in love and the fear of getting hurt again after experiencing past trauma.
With the repetition of the phrase "here I go again," the lyrics emphasize the singer's inability to resist this person and the inevitability of falling in love. The lines "Making the same mistakes, heading for more heartaches" indicate that the singer recognizes their pattern of falling for the wrong people and this realization is accompanied by a sense of hopelessness. The line "What can I do when there's nothing I can do?" suggests a sense of resignation and defeat in the face of love.
The chorus of the song expressing the idea of "Falling in love" is a testament to the fact that despite the pain and heartache that love can bring, people keep on falling in love. It shows that love is a powerful emotion and it can override even the most rational decisions.
