Minor Times
Frankie Rose Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Found and freed
The life I lead
Would ask the world to marry me
Near oh you have to be
So much closer to the end

But a void
Brings an endless space
Beats the world
As a feral place

We don′t sleep, we dream
Living in-between
We don't sleep, we dream
Living in-between

All of my
Second sight
Wants to bring me to my knees
Dreams so real
Make me feel
Like we′re coming to the end

But a void
Brings an endless space
Beats the world
As a feral place

We don't sleep, we dream
Living in-between
We don't sleep, we dream
Living in-between

(But the void brings an endless space)
(Beats the world as a feral place)

We don′t sleep, we dream
(The world keeps getting in the way)
Living in-between
(Dreams keep getting in the way)
We don′t sleep, we dream
(The world keeps getting in the way)
Living in-between
(Dreams keep getting in the way)

We don't sleep, we dream
(The world keeps getting in the way)
Living in-between
(Dreams keep getting in the way)
We don′t sleep, we dream
(The world keeps getting in the way)
Living in-between
(Dreams keep getting in the way)
We don't sleep, we dream
Living in-between

We don′t sleep, we dream
Living in-between

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Frankie Rose's song "Minor Times" describe a sense of finding oneself and experiencing a new level of freedom. The first verse talks about having found a new life, and being willing to commit to it with marriage. However, this new life seems to require being near the end of something, perhaps the end of the old way of living. The chorus discusses how this new life is not just about sleeping, but about dreaming, and living in-between two worlds. The life may not be perfect, as there is a void that creates an endless space, and the world can be a feral place. But still, the dream is worth pursuing.

The second verse discusses how this new life brings with it a sense of second sight, or the ability to see beyond the surface-level of life. This sight requires getting on one's knees, perhaps showing a sense of humility in order to fully embrace this new life. The dreams that come with this new life are so real that they make the end feel near, but again, there is a void and a feral world that stands in the way. The chorus repeats, emphasizing that this life is not about just sleeping, but about living in a state of dreaming.

Throughout the song, there is a sense of tension between the old world and the new world, the waking world and the dream world, and the freedom and the void that comes with it. However, the lyrics suggest that embracing this life of dreaming, living in-between, and pursuing a new freedom is worth it, even in the face of challenges and uncertainty.

One of the best songs on Herin Wild, among many excellent ones on the record. This is so well-produced, and so well played, it's almost disgusting.  Frankie say, "Pop!"

@FantasyLord19

I have always had vivid dreams, and can still recall some old dreams I had. To me, dreams were never just images popping up during night - they were real places I have visited when I closed my eyes. I have visited some locations several times when I dreamed, and I'm always glad to see them again when I sleep. This song feels like an anthem to that magical place I visit when I sleep, and I'm so glad it exists <3
