Frankie Valli & The Romans Lyrics

Forty
You want forever but baby, that ain't real
You've been deluded by the system
And to be frank ocean, that's an everybody symptom
So I don't blame you but I do
you navigating love with reality misconstrued
You live your life by Twitter like it's CNN news
And stay going through the motions of just fucking the same dudes that send unsolicited nudes
Never taking you on dates unless it's back at his place
And I don't say this to be rude
But this potion has been brewed by the same exact people supposed to love you from these dudes
That's your parents
And it's apparent that you're not ready for a marriage
Pushing baby in a carriage
While your man sit at home getting dome from a random
And he ghosts all your concerns like a motherfucking phantom
Each excuse that he provides, you wanna can 'em
You can't stand him so you have a seat
Scrolling through dating apps, texting niggas while he sleep
Hoping someone, maybe somewhere that you will meet
That's nothing like your man
So, that's someone that'll treat you to a candle-lit dinner
Confirm words of affirmation
Admiration for your mind
Reassure your beauty too and give a smack to that behind
But we're designed to not really care about those things
It's like let me fuck first then we might worry bout a ring
We might care about your goals and care your heart is in a sling
We might wine and dine, design ya
Introduce the nice things
Take baecations to an island
Take a knee to give you diamonds
But in the front of our medulla
We look to break the hymen
We're eluded by misogyny
Obviously, the patriarchy conquered me
Same way I conquered you
The worst cycle of all cycles
I can't change the world until I change myself
I can't really ask for help until I help myself
I can't do better for you 'cause I need better help
I can't change the world until I change myself
I can't really ask for help until I help myself
I can't do better for you 'cause I need better help
I can't change the world until I change myself
I can't really ask for help until I help myself
I can't do better for you 'cause I need better help
You thought this was real
I love Toxic, still
Numb for you, I feel
I must be for real
If I am to heal
You thought this was real
Love for you, concealed
Love's a battlefield
On one knee, I yield
Truth must be revealed
You thought this was real
I love Toxic, still
You thought this was real
I love toxic, still
Numb for you, I feel
I must be for real
If I am to heal
Love for you concealed

I thought this was real
Numb for you I feel

Overall Meaning

The song "Real" by Frankie Valli & The Romans is a heartbreak ballad that speaks of unrequited love. The lyrics convey the singer's feelings towards someone who he is deeply in love with, but that person doesn't see him in the same way. He gives his love and heart to this person, but they always break it, and although he sees them as everything he wants and needs, they don't believe him. Despite this, he longs for the person to lift their hands and fears, allowing him to wipe away their tears and prove to them that his love is real.

The lyrics point out the frustration and pain of one-sided love. The person feeling the intense love knows what they want, and it's the person they are singing to, but they can't seem to convince them. They are pleading for them to understand that they genuinely love them, but for some reason, they don't see it or choose to ignore it.

In summary, the song's overall message is that true love is real, and it's painful to have it unreturned. The lyrics beautifully express the emotions of the person who is in love and the pain they feel.

City Street Harmony

I saw Frankie last year in New Orleans. He was performing just before Mardi Gras, billed as Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons and backed up by what looked like some of the cast of "Jersey Boys".  He is going on 80 and still a great entertainer! He and the group sounded fantastic and knocked the crowd out!   This one is a classic!

Morna Marr

I'm not sure he's actually doing his singing live these days.

This is real.  This is music.  This is my soul.

Absolutely.. Frankie loved the group sounds in the 50s and still does.. Apparently he's got a killer record collection

Bob Aldo

Frankie really was an outstanding vocalist.

Still is, just saw him in concert a month ago. The "4 Seasons" were younger than the songs he sang!!

He has a very unique voice. Frankie, Jimmy Beaumont, David Ruffin, Dee Clark; among a few with those I didn’t mention.
