Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Stay,
ahhhh Just a little bit longer
Please please please please please
Tell me that you're gonna

Now your daddy don't mind,
And your mommy don't mind,
If we have another dance, dear,
Just one more time.

Oh, won't you stay,
Just a little bit longer,
Please let me dance,
Please say that you will
Say you will

Stay,
Woh-oh-oh Just a little bit longer
Please please please please please
Tell me that you're gonna

Stay, come on come on come on, stay
Stay, come on come on come on, stay

Overall Meaning

The song "Stay" by Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons is a classic love ballad that expresses the singer's desire for his lover to stay with him for a little bit longer. Throughout the song, he pleads with her to stay and dance with him, asking her to promise that she will remain with him. The lyrics "Please please please please please, Tell me that you're gonna Stay" reveals the insistent plea of the singer for his lover to stay by his side. The song is a simple romantic tune encapsulating the 1960s pop love song genre in which the singer begs and cajoles his love interest to stay just a little while longer. The lyrics successfully communicate the passion and ardor of the singer's feelings towards his lover, emphasizing how much he desires her presence, even if it is for a brief moment.

One of the significant facts about the song is that it was released in 1964 and became a massive hit for the group. It peaked at number 16 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and was later featured in movies like Dirty Dancing and Goodfellas. Another exciting fact is that it has been covered by numerous artists, including Jackson Browne, Bobby Vee, and Wilson Pickett.

Additionally, the song's opening a cappella harmony has become one of the most identifiable in pop music history. The song was a significant influence on soul music, which became popular in the late 1960s.

Frankie Valli initially declined to record "Stay" but finally agreed due to popular demand by his fans. Bob Crewe co-wrote the song with Bob Gaudio, the instrumentalist and writer in the group. Both Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio also wrote the group's biggest hits.

Won’t you say you love me all of the tii-I-I-I-I-ime

I met Frankie valli at a glass shop on the boardwalk where I worked. He was so nice and down to earth and stayed for awhile and ordered a blown glass frog and a spun glass turtle. We were delighted and had so much fun. I will never forget that. Thanks for making our summer Frankie

If only this song was little bit longer

@Nestor123057

Yeah. It's the only thing wrong with it.

@dphilly179

Hell the original is even shorter

@ray_ray_7112

Yep, at least just a little bit. I am so glad to have met Frankie Valli in person. When I talk to him and his dressing room at the Sands Hotel one day it was just like he knew me as family, although we had never met before.
