They call her Dawn
Dawn,
Go away I'm no good for you
Oh Dawn,
Stay with him, he'll be good to you
Hang on,
Think,
What a big man he'll be
Think,
Of the places you'll see
Now think what the future would be with a poor boy like me
Dawn go away,
Please go away
Although I know,
I want you to stay
Dawn go away,
Please go away
Baby, don't cry
It's better this way
Ahh, ahh, ah
Ohh-ohh-oh
Dawn,
Go away I'm no good for you
Oh Dawn,
Stay with him, he'll be good to you
Hang on,
Hang on to you
Dawn,
Go away back where you belong
Girl we can't,
Change the places where we were born
Before you say,
That you want me
I want you to think,
What your family would say
Think,
What your throwing away
Now think what the future would be with a poor boy like me
Meee-ee
Dawn,
Go away I'm no good for you
Oh Dawn,
Stay with him, he'll be good to you
Hang on,
Hang on to you
Dawn,
Go away I'm no good for you
Dawn,
Go away I'm no good for you
The lyrics of "Dawn" by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons depicts a conflicted protagonist who is trying to convince his love interest, Dawn, to leave him and be with someone else who can provide her with a better life. The song begins with the description of Dawn being compared to the prettiness of a midsummers morning, followed by the request for Dawn to go away because the singer is not good for her. The singer pleads with Dawn to stay with the one who will be good to her and advises her to hang on to him.
In the second verse, the singer presents Dawn with his low social status and financial circumstances and warns her about the disapproval of her family. He encourages her to think about the future she would have with him, a poor boy. The chorus repeats the same plea for Dawn to leave and ultimately ends with the repetition of the line "Dawn, go away, I'm no good for you."
On one hand, the singer wants Dawn to move on to a better future, while on the other hand, he desire her to stay. This internal struggle is the central conflict of the song. The lyrics express the pain and heartbreak of having to let go of someone you love for their own sake, knowing that one's own circumstances cannot provide them with the life they deserve.

My high school sweetheart and later my wife of 54 years were Four Seasons fans-loved and lived to their great songs and matchless harmonies. Now the love of my life is gone from me since 2015, but here on you tube I live in my memories to the music.

I agree, we cannot have the people we lost back, but we can remember them. Keep strong and as long as You remember her, she shall live in your heart.
