In 1994 he had his first national hit with "Als Sterren Aan De Hemel Staan". In 1997 he conquered Germany with his album "Weil Ich Dich Liebe".
Frans Bauer's fame kept growing to the point where he had his own reality show called "De Bauers", in which his daily life, including his family life, was followed. Bauer has also designed clothing for the Vroom & Dreesmann retail chain, based in The Netherlands.
He has won several awards and honours in The Netherlands, including a knighthood ("Ridder in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau") due to his charitable work and the "Gouden Televizier-Ring" for the reality show that has been running on Dutch television the year previously.
In 2006 he was struck by an infection on his vocal cords. He recovered after surgery.

The song "Daar heb je vrienden voor" by Frans Bauer is all about the importance of having friends to support you through difficult times. The lyrics reassure the listener that even when they feel alone and overwhelmed, they can reach out to their friends for comfort and understanding. The first verse describes a tough moment, when the listener's smile has disappeared and the sun is no longer shining in their life. In this moment, they are encouraged to seek out a friend who will listen without judgment, offer kind words, and help them see brighter days to come. The chorus repeats the phrase "Daar heb je vrienden voor," which translates to "That's what friends are for," emphasizing the importance of these social connections in getting through difficult times.
The second verse continues with this theme of relying on friends for support. It acknowledges that sometimes we try to hide our tears and struggles from others, but true friends can see through the facade and offer a listening ear. The lyrics suggest that friends don't judge or hold grudges, but simply want to see us happy and thriving. The final lines of the song state that a true friend is always there for us when we need them, standing by our side for life.

Heeft soms de lach jou verlaten
Have you lost your ability to laugh sometimes?
En schijnt de zon ook niet meer
And the sun doesn't seem to shine anymore.
Zoek dan vriend om te praten
Then try to find a friend to talk to.
Woorden die doen je geen zeer
Words that won't hurt you.
Morgen is alles weer anders
Tomorrow everything will be different.
Zie je ineens weer de lach
You'll suddenly see yourself laughing again.
Dan zal de zon ook gaan schijnen
Then the sun will shine once more.
En kijk je weer blij naar de dag
And you'll be happy to face another day.
Daar heb je vrienden voor
That's what friends are for.
Die jou onarmen
They will embrace you.
Ze trekken jou erdoor
They will pull you through.
Als het even niet gaat
When things aren't going well.
Voor heel je leven
For your entire life.
Want een echte vriend Staat altijd paraat
Because a true friend is always ready to help.
Hou je je tranen verborgen
Are you hiding your tears?
Denk je dat niemand ze ziet
Do you think no one sees them?
Vecht je alleen met je zorgen
Are you fighting your worries alone?
Vrienden die zien jou verdriet
Friends can see your sadness.
Alles kun je met ze delen
You can share everything with them.
Ieder moment van de dag
At any time of day.
Maar ach dat kan ze niet schelen
But they don't care about that.
