The band first experienced chart success when their second single "Take Me Out" reached #3 in the UK Charts, followed by their debut album Franz Ferdinand which entered the UK album chart at #3. The band went on to win the 2004 Mercury Music Prize and two BRIT Awards in 2005 for Best British Group and Best British Rock Act. NME named Franz Ferdinand as their Album of the Year. From the album, three top-ten singles were released, "Take Me Out", "The Dark of the Matinée" and "This Fire". The band has also received several Grammy Award nominations.
The band is named after Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria whose assassination was one of the main reasons for the start of the First World War. The band decided on the name after seeing a racehorse named Archduke Ferdinand win the Northumberland Plate in 2001, eventually coming to the decision as the alliteration and sound of the name appealed to them.

Franz Ferdinand Lyrics

Or maybe
I don't need the sour side of love
Of love
No, I don't care his breath is in your hair
Well, I don't care his skin is still between
Still on fold of your sheets
I don't mean to claim or own you
Or maybe I would like to
But I need whatever side of love
Is there
No, I don't care his breath is in your hair
Well, I don't care his skin is still between
Still on fold of your sheets
Send him away
Oh, can't you let me stay tonight?
Oh, can't you let me stay tonight?
Oh, can't you let me stay tonight?
Can't you let me stay tonight?
The lyrics of Franz Ferdinand's "Send Him Away" convey a sense of apathy towards the singer's love interest seeing someone else. The song begins with the singer expressing that they cannot feel envious towards their love interest seeing someone else, or perhaps they simply do not want to feel the "sour side" of love. The singer seems to be indifferent towards the fact that the person their love interest is seeing still lingers in her life, with his breath in her hair and his skin between the folds of her sheets. Throughout the song, the singer expresses a desire to be with their love interest, but does not seem to care much about the competition they are facing.
