Rat and Cat
Frau Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ratty the rat hates Catty the cat
She's always making fun of his weird and long teeth
Ratty the rat thinks Catty's a brat
He hates her perfect fur cut and can't stand her brags

Perfect cut, and whitish fur
And slippery tongue and mindless mind
Selfish girl and stupid cat
And never will she change to a nicer cat, change to a nicer cat
Change, change, change, change
Catty the cat hates Ratty the rat
He's always making fun of her perfect white fur
Catty the cat thinks Ratty's a brat
She hates his weird and long teeth and can't stand his brags

Long weird teeth and stupid smile
And smelly breath and dirty coat
Selfish boy and stupid rat
And never will he change to a nicer rat, change to a nicer rat
Change, change, change, change

Oh, little did they know that they loved
Loved each other damn hard

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Frau's song "Rat and Cat" tell a story of two animals who hate each other, Ratty the rat and Catty the cat. Ratty hates Catty because she always makes fun of his long and weird teeth, and because he can't stand her brags about her perfect fur cut. On the other hand, Catty hates Ratty because he always makes fun of her perfect white fur, and she can't stand his own brags about his weird and long teeth. The lyrics describe each other's flaws, such as Ratty's dirty coat and smelly breath, and Catty's slippery tongue and mindless mind. However, the twist comes at the end when the lyrics reveal that little did they know that they actually loved each other damn hard.

The song is a reflection of how we often judge people based on their outer appearance or quirks without understanding them. Ratty is judged for his teeth, and Catty is judged for her looks, but in reality, they are just being themselves. The song is a reminder to look beyond our biases and prejudices and see the good in people.
