Syndicate
Fray (The) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Halfway around the world
Lies the one thing that you want
Buried in the ground, hundreds of miles down
First thing that arises in your mind while you awake
It's bending you 'till you break
Let me hold you now

Baby close your eyes
Don't open til the morning light
Baby don't forget
You haven't lost it all yet

Don't know what your made of
'Till the one thing that you want
Is coming with the dawn and suddenly changes
Monday, syndicate me, it's everyone the same
But all we've lost to the flame
Listen to me now

Baby close your eyes
Don't open 'till the morning light
Don't ever forget
We haven't lost it all yet
All we know for sure
Is all that we are fighting for
Baby don't forget
We haven't lost it all yet

Someday when this is over
We mix it up, no answer
For now it's when I hold ya
We are closer, we are closer
We are closer, we are closer

Baby close your eyes
Don't open 'till the morning light
Don't ever forget
We haven't lost it all yet
All we know for sure
Is all that we are fighting for
Baby don't forget
We haven't lost it all yet

We are closer
We are closer
(We haven't lost it all yet)
Now we are closer

(We haven't lost it all yet)
We are closer

Overall Meaning

The first stanza of the song "Syndicate" by The Fray tells a story of someone who is searching for something that is buried hundreds of miles down in the ground. This could be taken literally as looking for something valuable buried deep beneath the earth or metaphorically as a representation of something that they feel is missing in their life. Whatever it may be, it is causing them to feel bent and broken. The singer offers to hold them as a comfort in their pain.

The second stanza emphasizes the importance of keeping hope alive, even in times of difficulty. The lyrics encourage the listener not to forget that they still have something to fight for and hold onto. The reference to "syndicate" could be interpreted as the pressure to conform to societal norms and expectations, but the song suggests that everyone is struggling with their own challenges.

The chorus repeats the message to keep holding on and not to lose hope, as well as reassuring the listener that they are not alone. The last stanza offers a glimpse of optimism for the future and the possibility of things getting better, with the idea of mixing things up and not knowing the answer but finding comfort in the closeness of another person.

I find myself coming back 'round to The Fray after over a decade. It took all of 10 seconds to realize why I listened to their music every day when I was in high school. To the band, if youre reading this, thank you for your music. You helped me through some of the darkest days of my life.

This song is home to me. I don't think I've ever had anything mean so much to me as this song does. It fills me with hope for the future, it gives me the strength to achieve my goals, and it reminds me that all is not lost when you fail. I'm a different kind of artist than The Fray. I'm a writer. I always think that if I can reach out to one person and make them feel something, then I am successful. The Fray has done that to me. Thank you so much.

He has the most beautiful, distinguishable male vocals in the genre. Favorite band till the end <3
